Tanya, Hmmm, It appears you feel that Deep Creek is the one place that will stay the same if we all just sing happy tunes and invite only a select crowd. I wonder if you would " approve " of the various friends I have invited over the years. So the springs is an invitation only affair, and better be prepared for your visit, the way " we " think you should be, or your not goin,by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Tanya, The issue of whether the Moss Mill Road, or any access will be allowed again in the future is entirely up to a legal process. Katrina will not be able to make the courts open those roads just because she wants to. People have expressed here at the DCHS forum a number of times that Katrina will not prevail in here efforts to have the access road accross that land open again. If she is trulyby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
DCR, My talk with Brad was concerning the route 3 trail. We did not talk about route 3 and 4. You could call him to ask if there were any plans of improvements for those routes in mind by the USFS or the BLM. I really doubt it.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
AZ, Did you stop taking your medication again :-)by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm a go for the 18th. I've been having lots of trouble with my server for the last week so I feel like I must move real fast here before they drop the hammer and disconnect me again, and again, and again :-)by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Joe, I think the name you came up with is also in the top 5 entries for our group name. Thats amazing, we have two names in the top 5 already, paul suggestion and yours :-)by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Sorry Jobe, Ranger Brad was talking about the route 3 trail. We did not talk about Route 3 itself. I seriously doubt that the BLM or the USFS have it in thier agenda to improve route 4 or 3. They are both already concerned about excessive visitation by all routes to the springs.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I called the Sky Forest Ranger station where Brad Burns works out of to ask if he had an e-mail he uses. They gave me one but the person I talked to said she would leave him a message to get back to me to let me know whether he prefered to be contacted by e-mail or phone. Of course he suggested people could contact him by phone anytime but I thought an e-mail might be a better option in some caseby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks for the report Ken :-)by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ron, I share your sentiments about the route 3 trail. Oh well, I do beleive we are on the right course in these efforts to develop good relations with Brad and the USFS.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
For myself, after the weekend of the 18th, I have current plans for all the weekends up into late June at this point. DCR, I agree with alot of your points. I think we may have to keep things rather simple regarding this group since peoples timeschedules will continue to be a problem. Hopefully we can get a small group of folks together at that park I mentioned on Navajo. If enough people opt toby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It is a trail that goes from a point within Forestry lands on route 3 and connects to the Bowen Ranch trail at a point within about a 15 minute hike from springs. It allows people to connect to the Bowen Trail without having to traverse the 4 wheel drive portion of route 3 to the Forestry parking lot. If the trail is filled in and smoothed over the route will still be a legal way to walk to the sby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I had the opportunity to speak with Ranger Brad Burns today in a phone call. I told him about our plans to work at developing a group of concerned DCHS visitors who would like to find some ways to help the springs. He was pleased to hear this and said he would appreciate very much any efforts that would benifit the springs. I told him that aside from simple activities like picking up trash or cleby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ron, I am truly impressed by what you have put together here. Let me be the first to say, thank you very much for your efforts on this. The date for the first meeting you suggested will work for me. There are three parks I'm looking at on the map of the area which are essentially along the way most people would be traveling to the springs. There is the Mohave Narrows park on the Mohave river justby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I would tend to agree with DCR and Ron on this one since my time to be involved in a chat situation would be pretty limited.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Even though I like the name you picked Viejo I think DCR is correct pointing out that this name was used before and may be veiwed by some in a negative light because of the history surrounding that organization of folks.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks for the tips about Knee injuries Viejo. It is improving more rapidly that I expected. Hopefully this progress will contiue. I gave up running back in my early 30's because I was reading about how excessive running can wear out your joints prematurely. My hips and knees felt much better once I stopped. I've had 4 people suggest to me today that my injury is due to " ageing ". Thatby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
MP, I talked to Brad Burns today and he verified that everything within a mile of Deep Creek is a no fire zone from the Mohave Dam to some point I can't remember now far upstream from the hotsprings. Its the same area that is considered a day use Zone too. Viejo, excellant points you have made. Brad Burns also discussed his disatisfaction with the planting of non-native tree's at DCHS. Good points Paul, I would say that name you suggested is definitely in the top 5 in the name race :-)by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Good points Ron, I'll be looking for your post :-)by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Paul, Ambivalence is a word I would use also in describing how I feel about whether Mike and Gail should be involved in this meeting we are proposing. Gail has expressed that she would rather not out of saftey concerns. On the one hand I don't want these people to feel that they are being treated unfairly by being left out but then it may not be expecially benificial to get them together at thisby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe, I talked with my brother this morning and he basically gave me the same advice as you. He has first hand experience with knee injuries. He used to race motocross and in one fall he hyperextended ( knee bending the opposite direction its supposed to :-( ) his knee and had to have micro surgery on it. Anyway he said I probably just pinched some cartilage a bit. I am happy to say that my kneby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
DCR, As you suggested a park would be a good option in terms of providing a comfortable outdoor place with lots of room and shade since the days are getting hotter. I would be fine on doing a meeting down at the springs but I'm not sure at this point how long it will take my knee to heal from its injury. If we did use a park for the first meeting then people that wished to could hit the springs aby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
DCR, I had considered later that the idea of a sign at the springs might not be the best thing. I will try to contact the appropriate Forestry person who would be responsible for the Forestry parking lot ( maybe Brad Burns ) and see what thier feelings are about the idea of a trash bin at the Forestry parking lot. They may very well not want to take on the responsibility of removing the trash froby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe, Since we have just begun to try to organize a group interested in helping with the problems at DCHS, I think trying to affix a name to this collection of people is something that should be discussed in the first meeting so that the people present can decide what a name for the group might be. Also I have not seen that we have agreed on a date for the meeting yet. I think that decisions reacby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe, I think its been suggested that memorial weekend would not be a good option for some even though the date you mention could probably work for me, my schedule is open presently for that date. Well have to see what the other say.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Good to see all this positive thinking about how to become more organized to help the springs. I would be glad to attend the meeting. We need to give folks time to plan ahead and get some confirmation here on who will be going. I think there is enough of us presently to make a start and through time I would think the group would grow. Bruce, Hmmmm, thats quite a salvo of questions, I counted 28, and I thought my post were long :-) I'm still trying digest all that you have said :-) My knowledge of Mike Castro has been the mostly breif conversations we have had at his gate while I was accessing through the Bowen Ranch and a couple of more lengthy conversation we had just after last Thanksgiving. Ah, thats what I figured. We will all see how that story plays out in the not to distant future I'm sure. Ok, too much computer time, my eyes are buggin out and my bed is calling me. As Jobe would say, goodnight ya-all :-)by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
