Genericusername, You ask what is the best from your way but do not say which way that is. I know of 9 ways to the springs and of 3 different bridges. So in short, what are we asking?by jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
My friend who wishes not to be identified came from the springs to report about the forest service went to the springs yesterday. He said they picked up a large amount of trash and were very nice and polite to everyone. That is why you are called a service. Thank you for making me feel better about all this tax money I am paying. More importantly thanks for making this beautiful place more sanitby jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The sun was just begining to shine at 8 am when I pulled into the Freedom trail head. I hiked around and found only a small amount of trash and was thinking about how many people have helped to keep it clean. Then I suddenly came across a 1 gallon bottle of Capt Morgan whiskey broken into hundreds of pieces. That must a been a heck of a party. The weather was sunny and warm with a small breeze.by jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I have camped there about a dozen times and the only problem I had was when a snake got into my tent and did not leave for @ 30 minutes. The forest adventure pass is not required either. Another time I saw some deer there, they did not scare me though. Best time is during a full moon. I usually park behind the guard rail next to the bridge. The parking lot at the Bowen ranch appeared full Saturday at 3 pm. when I got there. There were 10 vehicles at the Freedom trailhead and 3 vehicles at the Hunters camping area where I parked and camped. I expected most people should be leaving but was wrong about that. When I got to the springs I estimate 60 persons were there and more were coming in than were leaving. I spent the evening with mby jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes Paul, Jobe would do that if he was not at the springs already. When you leave the springs going toward Lake Arrowhead it is 1 mile to the barbed wire fence. But it is 1/4 of a mile to where you turn away from the creek. So you must go another quarter of a mile to stay legal. When you do you will be in a large valley with many flat areas for camping. Be advised the trek from the springs to thby jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yesterday I left the springs at 1 pm. At 3 pm I left a friends house nearby. The rain started to pour pretty strong as I drove down Bowen ranch road. It rained hard enough to cause my wipers to explode. Perhaps that is why some people refer to my ford explorer a ford exploder ? :-\by jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Coyote, Yes, I did mean MOFO hill. My auto correct program does not identify it how ever. It changed the spelling and you caught it. After thinking about it most of the butts in the Serenity pool were Newport menthol too. I have learned that butt heads are like pretty women, they are everywhere ()*;by jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
As I headed to the Freedom trailhead I saw 7 vehicles at the Bowen ranch. When I got to the trail head there were 2 trucks and a van parked. It was 7 am. When I parked a baby road runner appeared from no where. I stopped what I was doing and sat down next to him. He was very cute, small and @ 15 feet away from me. I sat down and talked with him about why he was here now? He opened his beak did hby jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When I got to the Freedom trail head there were 4 cars. I could see 5 cars on the Bowen ranch. It was 2:00 pm. The weather was great with a small breeze in my face. The rain had made some new gullies in some places . When I got near to mofo hill I came across Wizard. So we hiked in together. When we got to the springs neogeo was there. I took an ol" friend to the springs yesterday Sunday the third of August. She made me promise we would leave if the floods came. From the Freedom trailhead I could see nine cars and two tents. There were no cars at the freedom trailhead. I supposed the weather reports had scared away the 2 wheeled drivers. It was not a large crowded day for a Sunday only maybe 40 persons mostly textiles. I visited that place back in 1973. Back then it was more like a hippy commune kind of vibe. The woman I was with prevented me from getting a really good reading by keeping me busy with her needs.by jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It was already warm at 6am as I past the Bowen ranch. For some reason Turkey vultures were flying around the ranch area. I wondered if they were Castro's friends ? When I got to the freedom trailhead there were 6 cars and trucks parked. After I parked a cute young woman approached me and asked if I had any jumper cables. I looked to find if I did but I did not. tcu11, Your options are to spend an extra hour or two on the freeway and an extra 100-200 dollars at the ranch. Or, hike an extra mile on the Bradford ridge trail. Sounds like a no brainer to me. Back in the 80's-90's when I took my children to the springs I always told them to stay in eyesight of me and / or their Mom. Which was a good policy. You should inform these girls that they will alby jobe - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Tipper, The shortest fastest way to the springs from Redlands is to go to Lake Arrowhead. Just before the Mall is a 5 way STOP sign. Turn right onto Hwy.173. Go @ 5-7 miles and past Penny Pines park and a shooting range. 2 miles past the shooting range is a concrete bridge with a curve in it. Park near the bridge and look north for the trail head. It was 7am as I was heading down Bowen ranch rd. a Bobcat jumped right into the front of my truck.I missed running into him by @ 10 feet. He took @ 5 hops in front of me and then as if by some magnetic force he jumped back into the bushes. Of course I took this as absolutely fabolus. I had a very good look at this beautiful animal. Annashep, Everyone here sound like spoiled city sleekers. IF (and that is a big word)you are a good camper you will enjoy the many pleasures of this forest. With out latrines and fire rings and such. I saw only one car at the Bowen ranch parking area and only one truck at the Freedom trail head. So I thought it would be a slow day at the springs which I was looking forward too. Your Question is unanserable. Because anything can happen at any time. For example, I was there last Tuesday. When I got there around noon, there were 4 persons at the springs. billison, There are many trees on the Bradford ridge path to Deep creek. Almost every canyon along that path has trees suitable for hammock camping. My favorite camping spot is @ 1 & 1/2 a mile from the springs along that path. When it is a rainy year there is a spring that gushes large volumes of water that appear at a place called the Bradford spring. neogeo, There are wolfs around the Bowen ranch. Two miles before you arrive at the ranch is a small neighborhood known as the village. I was at the springs yesterday evening. I met a guy who was hiking the P.C.T. He had a small dog with him. He said a wolf attacked his camp the night before. It was 1 pm when I drove down to the Hunter’s camp parking lot. This parking area requires a high clearance 4 by 4 which my Ford Explorer does have.
