Sungirl2, regarding this from your post: " Additionally, many of the regular participants in this forum recently rejected the following rule of common etiquette (apparently drawn from Japanese Onsen baths), at least insofar as it pertains to women and couples:

"Be extremely respectful of couples and family groups. The protective urge comes to fore when an unaccompanied male appears, strips and slips into a pool with young children or wives and girlfriends. Again, ask. Or seek another pool if possible." (http://www.soakersforum.com/3/viewtopic.php? "

What was dis-aggreed with was Melloguy's notion that if a couple wished to monopolize a hotpool at DCHS for their private romantic time, and a single guy was in the hotpool, that this single guy should move on as an expression of his courtesy. So do the Japanese Onsen Bath rules govern the various conduct one would expect at all of the hotsprings in the world, in all of their myriad characters and settings? Of course not. The culture in Japan is very much differant than the realities of american culture. I am an adult male, married, with two teenage daughters and I have visited DCHS countless times on my own ( as a single hiker ) with no problems, with no children, wives or girlfriends freaking out because I was in the hotpool with them. So what, now you are suggesting that any time a child, someones wife, or someones girlfriend gets in a hotpool at DCHS and I am in that hotpool that I should according to this Japanese Onsen Bath rule, " seek another pool if possible "? I mean this is so ridiculous it just really makes me laugh.

And Mellowguy, you can state anything you want here at this DCHS Forum about your idea of moving people this way and that in hotpools because of this notion of yours that romantic couples interest in your mind are of higher importance than the interest of single hikers. You can do whatever you think might compell all the diverse groups of people down at DCHS to comply with your wishes but you clearly do not understand the greater nature of the visitation realities at these springs. DCHS is not a Japanese Onsen Bath environment. You are not law enforcement so as I said before your choices remain the same, if they don't want to abide by your wishes, you can argue endlessly with them, fight, or leave. I have seen plenty of people down there in recent years that would choose #2 if you got pushy with this notion your so pre-occupied with, but hey, don't think I'm stopping you from trying!

You both ( Mellowguy and Sungirl2 ) need to quit implying that somehow if those of us regulars at this forum don't happen to agree with this one notion of courtesy Mellowguy suggested, that somehow we therefore are just plain dis-respectful people who care not for the interest of others. And besides that, I've seen plenty of groups and couples alike that were rude and dis-respectful, and alot of very considerate single people. You both apparently think that lots of DCHS regulars have not dealt with all types of jerks of ill behavior over the years. I could go down the long list of DCHS travails but anyone who's been going to DCHS for many years knows it already. I mean there is a big metal sign on the beach that says no camping and no fires and you see how well thats stopped these particular problems.

As far as I'm concerned well mannered single people have as much a right to use the DCHS hotpools as any couples or groups do.

If kids are not OK with nudity, do not bring them to DCHS
