Nature 66,
Of course children are legally permitted to be at Deep Creek, but that is a different question from whether it is advisable to bring them there, especially since the place seems to have become more inundated with undesirables and less respectful in the past several years.
I imagine each parent would have to decide that question for themselves, but certainly I would at least stay very close to my own children if I ever brought them there. At a bare minimum, I would not let them be within touching distance of any unaccompanied male in a pool.
According to one poster in this forum (DesertHiker420, Aug 19, 2010), there are "many weirdos, pervs, drunken druggies and Megans Law offenders [at DCHS]... [and] a local man's daughter [got] molested behind some rocks at DCHS."
I do not know how severe that problem is or not, but obviously at least some perverts and pedophiles do go to DCHS.
Additionally, many of the regular participants in this forum recently rejected the following rule of common etiquette (apparently drawn from Japanese Onsen baths), at least insofar as it pertains to women and couples:
"Be extremely respectful of couples and family groups. The protective urge comes to fore when an unaccompanied male appears, strips and slips into a pool with young children or wives and girlfriends. Again, ask. Or seek another pool if possible." (http://www.soakersforum.com/3/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1678.)
I would think that if many DCHS male regulars who consider themselves normal see no reason to extend such minimal courtesy to women or couples, far less will dyed-in-the-wool pedophiles see any reason to lessen their presence near children at DCHS.
