Nice "off topic" story! A good reminder that we all should be thankful that most of have the ways and means to get around and enjoy life mostly unencumbered. This is a good reminder for me to take inventory of myself. I need to be more helpful to those who I often judge to not be worthy of my help and support. Way to go Mohave!by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Now there is a chapter for the "History of Deep Creek" book. Looks like Wizard is well onto something there! Almost moved me to tears! Happy hiking, my friend!by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
And hey... look at THAT coincidence! That last post was 9-10-11-12! Spooky!by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ah yes... I remember the days of Mikey's posts. I actually met the dude once during a DCHS volunteer clean up day 10 or 15 years ago. Same day I met the Wizard and the Laughing Bear. Back then I could sneak away for a quick visit to the springs while on my business trips back to San Bernardino. Sadly, those days are gone. It's probably been at least 4 or 5 years since I've been back to Deepby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
How about we just cut off the fingers of those who leave their trash?!? Or maybe their toes and feet so they cant hike down there and "trash" the place? I really don't understand the mentality of those who pack their full food packs and drinks down... then don't have the decency to pack out the empty containers. There are a lot of inconsiderate knuckle-heads out there!by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ah yes... another lucid experience and memory from Deep Creek Hot Springs. I still remember my very first experience to the springs back in the mid 80's. Never having been there, I somehow missed the springs while hiking up the Pacific Crest Trail... hiked right on by them and up the canyon a ways. Not paying attention, I walked headlong into one of those prickly "yucca?" plants withby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
4.5. 5.5, 6... Who cares? (For the record... I've always understood it to be 6-ish... from the road.) Makes for a better story when you're telling your friends how far you hiked to soak.by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
No doubt... getting out is better than not! But I do get dang discouraged with all the trash. We've been doing some hiking and of course, plenty of biking here in the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah this summer. And sad to say, you find trash on the trails here as well. Longing for some intelligence in the species of man... (It's been a bad week as you know...) And even the stock mby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, Your girls are getting quite an eduction, aren't they? Unfortunately, probably not the education you'd want them to have. So sad. Remember the day my wife and I hiked in to meet you with our two daughters? Guess that won't be happening again if "momma" has anything to do with it. I'm so glad I wasn't there yesterday with your experience. I would have been tempted toby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Like I said last week... it's starting to sound like it's not worth visiting DCHS any more. Sad indeed...by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Dang! Why can't people pack out what they pack in?!?!? If you pack in food and drink in containers... it's a dang bit lighter after you eat or drink the stuff! Have some respect and pack it out! It's been several years since I've visited DCHS, but it sounds like it's becoming run down and trashed by irresponsible misfits who's selfishness is only out-weighed by their lack of consideration fby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, Well stated, my friend. Happy Hot Pottin'... And may the Hot Bubbling Water Gods shine on all happy springers and keep the abusive, littering, intimidating, boisterous, fierce and irresponsible people away... be they male, female, drunk, stoned, straight or gay.by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
"What BS"? "Homophobia"? That's rich... Go look up the definition of phobia: "defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding despite the fear, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed." I don't think that describes any of the gay related posts noted previously. What's BS is thatby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Just got on for the first time... in forever and read this story. Very interesting. I actually rode a bike a couple of times from the Mojave River Forks Dam to the springs and back. The last time the nice Forest Service Lady I encountered back near the car reminded be that no vehicular traffic is allowed on the PCT; motorized or human powered. Glad she didn't give me a citation. Hey! What's this forum thing? Oh yeah... it's all coming back to me now. I can't even remember the last time I checked out the Deep Creek Forum. Looks like all the old familiar "faces" are still posting. Come to think of it; I can't remember the last time was that I actually VISITED deep creek! Maybe 3 or 4 years ago. But I was within a couple miles of the springs last montby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Nice photos Wiz! I can't believe that 1) I actually got on to the forum for once. 2) That I haven't been kicked off by Rick for my last post. 3) That you haven't posted any pictures of that great trip to Utah! Happy Hot Pottin!by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
"Gary- at least this free entertainment is a lot better that the drivel on TV..." I can't argue with you there! That's why there is no cable or satellite TV running at our place. And though Jobe is good for a few laughs, I don't see the need for Rick to constantly belittle, berate name-call and capitalize on Jobe's obvious instabilities. I wonder if he pulled the legs off smallby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Well... I'm sure this will get me banned by Rick, the forum czar. It's been quite some since I've last posted. But after coming back to see what's up, I see that things really haven't changed much: Jobe is still entertaining an a bit confused and eccentric with his beliefs and story-telling. And Rick is still the know-it-all @#$%& that belittles him and makes light of most things saby Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Almost forgot... Check out pictures of Diamond Fork Hot Springs, Idaho Hot Springs, and yes... even some of my Deep Creek Pictures at: http://groups.msn.com/MeadFamilyAdventures There's some other good stuff there too. Brother Bear, Living here in Northern Utah, I could give you some suggestions of a few. There's not that many that I'm aware of. Right now I'm in Lompoc, CA on business (stuff and Vandenberg AF and will probably be visiting Gaviota (sp?) Hot Springs this afternoon after work. But two good ones in Utah are: Ogden Canyon Hot Springs. (Just next to the Ogden River at the mouth of Ogden Canyon)by Gary - U.S.A. Hot Springs
Jobe, you certainly have some interesting stories to tell from your outdoor adventures... Sounds like David the Minister's "quality" time was interupted by a nekid interloper! David better get some anger management therapy from Jack Nicholson above and beyond his praying! Jobe... your delivery method for story telling cracks me up! Thump! Thump! :-Oby Gary - U.S.A. I've never quite understand what motivates and what must go on in the mind of a "tagger". But then I remember carving my name into a tree in the woods as a young kid... What a sad sight this is. Again... sometimes it makes me ashamed to be a part of the human race. Not that I woulld ever advocate violence, but I have these thoughts that it's just too bad the Terminator was not around with a high powered rifle when the idiot(s) were just starting this stupidity with the paint cans. Ah yes... I rember taking this route a few years back... in the rental car. ;o) It was a yellow Ford "Escape". Four wheel drive... no problem eh? I made it to the USFS parking no problem. Had a great dip at Deep Creek. Then decided to take a different route out rather than retracing my path back to the West around Bowen Ranch. About that 4.5 versus 6 miles... Look back at the original post. "I was up stream from the springs..." about another mile or so. Not to mention, that the car was on the highway, on the OTHER side of that damn wide dam. ;o)by Gary - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
