Ah yes...
I rember taking this route a few years back... in the rental car.
;o)
It was a yellow Ford "Escape". Four wheel drive... no problem eh? I made it to the USFS parking no problem. Had a great dip at Deep Creek. Then decided to take a different route out rather than retracing my path back to the West around Bowen Ranch. So, I headed East toward Luna Mtn. and the road got progressively worse as it turned north and eventually back to the Bowen Ranch road. But I bounced and bumped over all kinds of rocks in my haste to make it back to the Ontario airport in time for my late afternoon flight.
Stopping to change at a gas station in Apple Valley, I noticed oil just pooring out of the crankcase. Oops! A quick purchase of a couple quarts of oil at the auto parts store allowed me to get back to the rental car return... just in time to miss my flight.
Fond memmories of the adversity faced to get to and from that special place that is Deep Creek.
