Name-calling isn't necessary, Rick. Why do you take it so personally? I had a tire slashed with a knife while I was parked at a movie theater in Riverside. Should I assume that it was the neighboring business to the theater, as they are the only ones with "motive"? (there was no theft involved) There is a flaw in that logic, and calling people "stupid" for pointing it outby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Here, at last, the meeting minutes... The meeting began around 2 pm and was attended by Ron, Arizona, Wizard, Sycamore Laughing, and Paul. 1. There have been no new members since our last meeting. 2. The new brochure box has been approved and was installed by Wizard on the step-over post by the lower parking lot. The flyers in it were used up quickly, and I refilled it again on my way out. 3.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Brother Bear, if we could all learn to respond to destruction in such ways, the world would be far more beautiful. Thank you.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi NN Yes, I was there and you were pointed out to me, but I'm sorry that we never did actually talk. Wasn't it a great day at the springs...such a large crowd all enjoying the place peacefully? I was there for three days this time, and also did a day trip last weekend when the wildflower show was even more spectacular. This time we got to see a large black rattler just upstream from the poolsby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
You might try checking with the forestry before driving out. They sometimes close the springs because of high fire danger.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Ron, Yes, I did get the logos. Thanks. I knew there had been more discussion and suggestions on them at the meeting, but stuck with what I had in notes when I posted. Glad to hear the details. I think the logo is visually appealing, and that the basic idea could be worked with the image we want to present. Sorry I had to miss what sounds like a great discussion at the last meeting. Hello Josef, Yes, there is activity there at night, although it isn't allowed. Some like the romantic aspect in the evening, and some just a party I guess, but I wouldn't think it would be dangerous to be there. You'll get fined if the rangers catch you, though, and they do come down at night fairly often. Please don't bring any glass. It is only less naked when the weather is too cold, but eby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Anyone would have reservations about a group which has some members who malign him or her on a website frequently. But anyone wanting to form an opinion about it would have to know what he said, to whom, in what context, and why it was repeated. At my last conversation with him, he seemed very positive about our group.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I did not attend the meeting, but have some notes to post. Other members please add anything I've left out or make any necessary corrections. The meeting started at 1:30 pm with Wizard, Ron, AZ Mike, Naked Man, Scott and Paul in attendence. About six nonmembers also attended. Membership is currently at 13 members. One of our DCV brochures was mailed to us with comments on it. There was no return address, but I think it is appropriate to share these comments with forum readers. I was not at the meeting, but the comments were shared by all there and sent along so that I could see them as well. The sender did not give a return address, but I hope that this person does read this forum and will see my own reby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Good idea, Katrina. Blue Corn, my experiences with Mike Castro have been positive. I started going to the springs before I started reading this forum, so the whole "feud" thing was new to me. I read over Katrina's former website and considered the things said on the forum. Then I made the effort to talk with Mike, observing his manner at the gate and listening to the things he says tby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Gary, Glad to hear you're working on a logo. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Yours will be the first for us to consider, unless others jump on the chance to contribute their ideas as well. I may even take my own advice and see what I can come up with. Peace and happy hotspringin'.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Full of hope, full of grace is the human race... Thank you Brother Bear Peace to allby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I copied the address so I can write the letter. Thanks for the heads up, Brother Bear.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Gary, I liked meeting you, and would like to thank you for your help with the cleanup and your wise and positive words. Deep Creek will remember you. I hope you can visit again soon.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I've been opposed to the idea of a box for flyers, but after the meeting with the USFS crew, I am encouraged by their view that it would do more good than harm. I hope that turns out to be the case. I like your idea, Wizard. It seems that there has been a significant improvement since we began our group efforts. New volunteers are joining both our group and our efforts. Hi Gary, It was great meeting you, and thanks for helping out with the cleanup. Too bad I had to leave so early and didn't have time to talk with you more. It sounds like you're having the same kind of problem with the forum as I had just after AZ Mike was banned, when Rick changed the format to login only. Paul also still cannot post for the same reason. I don't know what the problem is, butby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hello Gary, So glad to hear that your trips to the springs have been good. Let's hope that is always the case. I don't know what you mean by "hot pottin," but if that is a good long soak I'll be happy to join you. This is indeed a special weekend. The Deep Creek Volunteers and the USFS have both declared this saturday as their spring clean-up day for DCHS. I'm in the DCV and we'reby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Good idea, DCR! Someone from the forestry already suggested putting up a box, so I'm sure that they wouldn't have a problem with a displayed flyer.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
free our forests: You make a very good point about flyers. It illustrates the reason that I prefer to hand out flyers in person instead of putting up a box where people can take them...to avoid the flyers being a part of the problem that we are trying to alleviate. I did give out about a dozen the last time I was there, and all were well received by people that I talked to in person. Hi NSX, Yeah, these hot springs are a wonderful place. If you come in from Bowen Ranch, you'll have to cross the stream to get to the pools. It was about thigh deep on my last visit in March. When it is low, you can cross on the rocks and not get wet, but if more rocks are submerged, you'll have to brave the cold water of the creek. It is just a few steps, though, and well worth it. Hello everyone, It has been so refreshing to take a break from this forum. Came back today and saw some truth here. Thank you Laughing Bear for recognizing the difficulties and for braving them yourself. (but then, a bear would be brave, wouldn't it?) Many of us here are aptly named, including my dear friend Wizard. (I really liked the ending of that movie) But, I am particularly impressedby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I will not be reading or posting on this forum for at least a few weeks. Ron, please email me anything I might need to know for participation in DCV. I am finding it difficult to participate in DCV and DCHS-related matters and to avoid fruitless discussions of politics that I find very distasteful and disheartening, so I am off to find better uses for my time. I will use this forum only to poby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Item #5: We discussed and agreed to bring trash bags and food for our clean-up effort on March 29th, to coincide with our next meeting date. We agreed to publicize the date on the forum and to inform people by word of mouth. We decided against coordinating who brings what, but it was noted that we should avoid bringing too much extra food that we will then have to pack out along with the day'sby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The meeting began a few minutes after one p.m. in the new location suggested by AZ Mike. In attendence were Ron, AZ Mike, Paul, myself, Wizard, and a representative from TNS named Allen. Ron opened the meeting by distributing the agendas. Before beginning, it was noted that our group now has 12 members total, of whom seven currently have voting rights. You raise a good question as well, DCR, and one that we will have to consider carefully. My own feelings are mixed on this. On the one hand, I do not want to "advertise" for more visitors, but on the other hand I would like for the "advertisements" that already exist to be factual and to include good etiquette suggestions, as our brochure does. I think the number of visitorby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Stu...that is a great idea about stocking local Ranger stations with our brochures. I'll make sure that our group checks into it! I'll be soakin' up the vibes tomorrow and I know they will be good. Peace.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Really, I didn't think my logic would baffle anyone who has been reading a while. About William and his gun...remember the speculation that AZ Mike's small size and the claim that he owns a gun was enough "evidence" to show that he is dangerous? Oh, and the fact that he got too mad about his posts being edited and posted and emailed some angry statements. As for the Mohave Dam, youby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wow...what a crazy thread!!! Thanks for ithe info on William. I already knew that he is a small-built person, but now that I know that he also carries a gun I'm going to follow forum logic and be afraid of him! What I'm wondering is why and how Mike Castro goes all the way to the Mohave dam to vandalize cars there? Oh, yeah, that's right...it's the four dollars he wants. Good thing gas pricby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Stu, I'm glad you like our brochure. We are checking into ideas for distribution, and your suggestions may be possible. Those darn nasty politics that you claim ignorance of do not involve the DCV as a group, so the possibility of the brochures being passed out through the Bowen Ranch people seems real enough to me.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
