Yeah, meeting people in person is definitely different. I especially like meeting people at the springs. I've heard a lot about both Gail and William from mutual as well as different sources, and if I had to choose one of them to meet it would definitely be Gail.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I thought it was the ostrich that was the evil one, according to Wizard's last reference to this much-maligned bird. A study of the behavior of ostriches might show the misconceptions about this bird "hiding its head in the sand." Katrina isn't even a she, but I would have the greatest respect for any actual activism that the two of them were to do. The good news is that Wizard anby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
In the first post about this, it sounded like one group of hotspringers and one might wonder then how the author of the post got the information to report as though having been an eyewitness to the event. Random visitors to the springs would not be likely to report anything that happened to Katrina Island, a pair of people who live nowhere near the springs and whose anti-Mike Castro (Bowen Ranchby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
didjfan, I can only guess at the rationale of the USFS in declaring the site "day use only," but my guess would be that the biggest concern is toilet practices. In the day time, hot springs users might tend to do their business farther away from the stream for privacy, but under the cover of darkness, many people use the area right behind the bushes by the grassy area. Welcome to Deep Creek Hot Springs, Suzy. You can camp on Bowen Ranch property for a very small fee, but there are no facilities available (dry camp). You can build a fire there with your own wood. The owner also does not mind if you burn some of the dead wood on the property as long as you leave the living stuff alone, but this will require scouting for it, hauling it to your campsite, and cutby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Eastbay, I am sorry that your Deep Creek parade got rained on. Glad you're with us in spirit, though, and I value your input. As for the age question, I'm open to the idea of 13 for the age requirement and agree with Ron's post above that we should set one age and stick with it for fairness and continuity.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Great ideas, Laughing Bear. I agree on both.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I like the idea of a location slightly removed from the bustle of busy days. Those great rounded boulders might prove distracting to rock stackers...just kidding. I'm glad AZ Mike decided to stay with us; his input has been helpful and we all enjoy the benefits of his work. I say let's try his suggested location and take it from there.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes, Terra did seem interested in helping with the website. As we had hoped, we are seeing more interest in our group now that we've done the preliminary work, and everything we hope to be able to do should be possible. With Terra, we would have two members who are minors. I don't have a problem with giving voting rights before age 18, but, as Ron points out, we do need an established minimumby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
5. We are scheduling our spring clean-up day to coincide with our meeting at the end of March. This gives us one meeting in Feb. to plan it, plus of course the forum. AZ Mike suggested that we make it a potluck to promote cameraderie among DCV members and friends. I wasn't clear if he meant a potluck on the cleanup day or on our next meeting day, but I will email him and find out since he canby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
3. We liked the idea of being connected to a larger organization, and no one had any other proposals besides The Naturist Society (TNS). Ron will check to see if there is a cost to have our organization listed in their publication. Ron is now a member, and each of us could also join as members individually, but we are interested in the idea of joining as a group or having an affiliation. I forgot to mention that our meeting was attended by Ron, Wizard, AZ Mike, myself, and Paul. Joining us later in the meeting were Ruth and Terra, who are considering membership. The meeting began on time, and I did not note the end time but it seemed shorter than our last meeting. Before we got to item #2, we had a discussion about the smaller of the two signs that are currently at the springsby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
At long last...the meeting minutes! Before I start, I should note that we discussed and agreed in a previous meeting that items voted in or agreed on in meetings would be open for forum discussion for one week to allow for members who did not attend to express another view. I suppose, then, that we would all agree that we mean one week from the date that the minutes are posted. (Although we shby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
One correction, Eastbay: the majority did not decide on this action. When asked, not one person responded that AZ Mike should be banned, although a couple of people expressed acceptance or support of the idea after it was done. Look at the meeting minutes, which I am about to post, for further discussion on this item. I also preferred ignoring post that were too argumentative, mean, or petty,by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The minutes have not been posted yet because I have been trying to meet a deadline on a project which will be late as of tomorrow but is still not done. Very sorry, especially to Brother Bear who seems to have fallen asleep while waiting. I will post the minutes tomorrow as soon as my project is complete, and I will post it under this thread. In the meantime I will let everyone know that we arby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hello everyone, I have just learned that there has been some significant damage to the trees planted at the springs. A number of them have been broken off about 18 inches above the ground. On a more positive note, one hard-working volunteer has spent a couple of days working to clean the black, sooty mud from the rocks near the crab cooker. I think DCR mentioned this as a problem, so, DCR, proby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
How do others feel about meeting on Sunday instead? Would that create a conflict for anyone?by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I am very sorry to report that I cannot make the DCV meeting on the 25th. I will be working that day. I rarely work on Saturdays, but still cannot get out of this one. I will probably be there the following day, and hopefully the following weekend also to celebrate my birthday, but not the 25th. :-(by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
From Russia? Do you speak Russian? I can sound out words in Russian, and even know a couple of words and phrases. I hope we get to meet; I'll say something that may make you laugh. (The first sentence I learned in Russian) In any case, I'd like to express my appreciation for the attempt to help, even though it didn't pan out. Wizard, I am not refusing to answer anything. If someone were trying to get me to "admit" (as though it were wrong!) that I "tread lightly" on criticizing you, my response would be the same. If your object is to find fault with me, then that is what you will see. Your speculation as to my "reasons" is just that: your speculation, and I fail to see why it is a conby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thank you, Ron, and it is good to be back. To answer Rick, I tried the username sycamorelaughing as well as Sycamore Laughing, so I can't tell what the problem was. Thank you for emailing me and helping me get back on! Hellooo everybody. Yep, I'm finally able to post again with some help from Rick. POSTING PROBLEMS: For some reason, I kept getting the response that my username and password did not match, even after going through the change of password routine. Paul got the same response, so I tried replying to the confirmation of registration email that I had received, but it came back as refused.
