Why does Mike Castro leave his gate open all night long when Deep Creek is limited to day use only?by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The BLM range specialist was out with the cattle leaseholder fixing fences last week. They returned later in the day to find one of their repair jobs cut with fresh motorcycle tracks going through it. This should be interesting....... The illegal motorcycle crowd is pissing off alot of peopleby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Well, I can afford to pay so I dont mind supporting the USFS. It's a shame that we pay so much in taxes to support the military/industrial war machine and corrupt governments and cannot afford to provide services to the citizens of this country.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I haven't been down there in a while but when I do go....it aint on a weekend thats for sure.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Aint it great! We really need some good rain this year. Water in the bank. Some snow would be VERY beneficial.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Sorry you are subjected to this Mr Wizard. Please keep documenting and reporting. Be sure to get an incident report # from the dispatcher when you call ( you have to ask for it) and keep if for your records. A documented pattern of harassment and retaliation is grounds for a civil lawsuit. Small claims court allows for a judgement of $5000 per plaintiff. Wherever Arizona Mike is, I wish him well. He was working out some personal issues back then and things didnt quite turn out as he liked. He left in a blaze of fire thats for sure.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
This pretty much tells it like it is. Some good news is the Barstow BLM, the San Bernardino National Forest and the San Bernardibo County Sheriff's Dept will be recieving some grant money from the State OHV commission to help combat the rampant OHV abuse in this area. Ord 3973 works. Everytime it happens, pick up the phone and call. Keep a log in a spiral notebook that includes the incident report ## (the dispatcher will give it to you if you ask when you make the complaint) Keep an accurate account that includes time, date,# of riders, what kind of vehicle ect ect.....avoid talking to the parents at this point, you will only risk an angry confrontation fromby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thankyou for the reports. The USFS has applied for a law enforcement funding grant from the State OHV division, along with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's dept and the Barstow BLM field office, to help address the escalating problems associated with illegal OHV abuse of our public lands. The question is......is anything Arizona Mike has posted here on this website considered reliable information? Is there any verifiable information to support his claims. A representitive of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's dept was touring the Arrastra Canyon area with the OHV commission last week. They are seeking an increase in funding to go after scoflaw riders and have submitted grants. If anyone observes OHVs within the Deep Creek Non Motorized area. Ir Mr Mc Millon's statement were true, why is the BLM concerned with the safety of FOJF volunteers working under a co-operative aggreement? Could it be they are concerned with the increase in overt hostility from non compliant OHV users directed at BLM personel in the Juniper Sub region?by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
"Mark McMillin, a commissioner with OHMVRC who represents off-highway vehicle interests, said environmental interests and off-roader interests did not seem to be clashing at Arrastre Creek. “From what I’ve seen here today, it looks like the two are getting along well,” he said." I was travelling recently and decided to visit at hot springs at a place known as Thermo, Utah. This one is located in a bleak flat scrub land about 1/2 mile from some train tracks. The springs bubble up hot on a travertine hill and locals have piped it away to a couple of cattle troughs for soaking. The only indication of "Thermo" is a sign marking a RR box that contains who knows whatby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Dont worry Mr Wizard.......signs make a great place to hang a towel. A little education is perhaps not a bad thing. Some are unaware.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
There are some great legal routes to ride in the area that are marked. Enjoy your explorations.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Brown marker with numbers = open route Red or no Marker = no motorized vehicles permitted You can legally drive a quad to the trail head for 3W02 and then hike on in about 1.2 miles. Chain it to the USFS sign Contrary to the wild rumors being spread by Dan Clark, the locals are friendly and do not shoot at OHV users. BTW - the rancher who owns of the grazing rights, Mr Stone has a long time family connection to the San Bernardino County Sheriff , Gary Penrod It is reported he is not too happy about all of the fence cutting by renegade motorcycle riders who trespass into the Deep Creek Non Motorized Vehicle area - the same area he is required to keep his cows out of.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
No Wizard, the cattle allotment has nothing to do with the OHV route network. Look for that route to remain open. It's been there for a long time. It originally accesed some mining prospects and there used to be the ruins of a cabin up that way.....now long gone. I remember seeing the old boards and foundation when I lived at Luna Vista back in the 70s. Back then, the grazing allotment includedby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The USFS and USFWS have prohibited cattle grazing in Deep Creek. The area is no longer part of the Round Mountain Grazing allotment. Any cattle sighted down there should be reported to the USFS/BLM and the leasee has a very limited amount of time to remove them. The poor condition of the fences are a major concern of neighboring property owners as well. The lease holder hasn't done any maintaiencby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The fence maintainence is the responsibility of the lease holder. With illegal MC riders cutting fences, his responsibility to keep the cattle on the range and out of Deep Creek will be difficult to uphold. The USFWS and USFS require the leasee to keep them out of the Deep Creek canyon. My bet is the cattle will not be released this year due to the drought and lack of maintainence of the fencingby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
