update on the San O situation: I had business in the OC and stopped by about nine or ten days ago. as I arrived, the marines were just in the process of evicting all of those who were using the beach south of the fence. A definite bummer. I was told by the only straight couple there (so it seemed, it was all men that day) that the rangers had given more tickets recently to those using the beach nude north of the fence suddenly. The marines had been evicting folks every day for a week at that point, for military exercises so there had been more nudes north of the fence. It may have gone back to "normal" by now and you can go south of the fence again. frankly, i did for an undisturbed hour or so after the marines left. but it isn't very relaxing this situation, to say the least. And it really was a gay cruising scene that day, which is fine but not for me or why I was there. I had to confront someone who kept trying to take my picture with a video camera; not fun.
It would be really useful if San O and Blacks had discussion forums like this one, where news and problems and day reports could be shared. The Facebook group for San O doesn't really work that way, and people don't really post on it too much anymore. No one has even reported there that the NAC is calling for folks to write letters and to attend a meeting of the Parks Commission, 9/28.

by the way, while i'm posting, i did have the lucky chance to spend another weekend at Pirate's Cove at the end of August, two full days on the beach and it was just paradise. Got recruited by a regular for the volleyball teams and spent part of one day doing that. Met people, romped with the dog, had such a great time. Just the best beach!
