hey wizard - from your photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hotspringswizard/7948148914/in/photostream/ This is based on a sculpture / monument that was paraded through the streets of post-revolutionary Moscow by the artist Vladimir Tatlin called Monument to the Third International! 1920 or so? I was also very struck by this photo you posted: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hotspringswizby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Wizard. I like your blog posts from the other thread. (And your BM photos, always.) I assume you didn't come to the main springs on Friday, I didn't see you there? You hiked in your own part of the canyon, your special places? I too enjoyed the fall colors. Things are changing fast now with the sudden change of season.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
One of the men down there said his name was Bill. But I've met Celtfire before - he who posts here under that moniker, and has the Facebook group - at the springs and this wasn't him....by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Returned to the springs yesterday, Friday 11/2, two weeks since my prior visit. Was able to travel there with my best friend who has been there only once before with me. This is a friend I’ve known since I was like twelve years old and we still see each other all the time, at this stage in our lives we still live near each other, for which I feel very lucky. His first visit to DCHS with me wasby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I really hope we don't start posting about the election on this board. But for the record, the "you didn't build that" comments seem pretty beautiful to me. Because it means we are part of a society, basically. In other words, not alone. I was at the springs yesterday, and there was some beautiful discussions in the pools, some kids who had been involved in Occupy in Portland and elsewhby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i left the springs around 4:40 pm and 34.012579 seconds on Friday but I never saw you there, somehow missed you. Hiked out passing a few folks and lapping others, including one ceaseless hiker, a freehiker who never sat still the whole day and had left to hike out a while before me and was hiking back down as I hiked out and probably kept doing it as he had been hiking for hours through the sprinby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It is great. When I was there on Friday, it was a cold morning but up in the 80s and hot later in the afternoon, which is when the Contemplation Pool was in pretty frequent use. It is beautiful to be there in the shade and soaking. On the burn area: That is why I wrote I couldn't figure it out. Since it is behind the outcropping, and amid the water sources, and the plant growth has gotten soby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
it is a beautiful pool. the way the builder sandbagged just where there is a single rock that in effect works like a wall to the side, it almost seems a square box carved out of the earth. And it gets deep right there, it made me feel so peaceful surrounded by the trees like a hot spring in Oregon more than the desert. loved it and thanks again to the inspired builder.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i also want to report: in addition to the new and beautiful pool--what will it be named?--there was not much trash yesterday. Yes there was some. But nothing like I saw in the late spring/summer. So nice to see that.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
so i will take my own advice/plea. i returned to paradise today after three months away. i go by way of bear valley road, and found that they are repaving Central. it wasn't an obstacle and speeds you along. bowen ranch road will bounce you a bit, but nothing really wrong with the dirt road. got to the ranch around 8 am - was immediately followed by another car with a couple in it. We descended tby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i was there today.....the water is cold again, and is very green with life!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I hope to post one soon--maybe tomorrow or the weekend--but there has been a drop off on trip reports on the board. Maybe due to the heat? I would love to read some great trip reports and hear what is happening at the springs. I can't believe I haven't been there in three months.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
update on the San O situation: I had business in the OC and stopped by about nine or ten days ago. as I arrived, the marines were just in the process of evicting all of those who were using the beach south of the fence. A definite bummer. I was told by the only straight couple there (so it seemed, it was all men that day) that the rangers had given more tickets recently to those using the beach nby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
that's awesome LC thanks for doing thatby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That sounds like a nice run P. You mean the old nude beach (the state park nude beach before the Pendleton fence) looks run down and rocky? Well it is, indeed. I've watched it ever since they started citing naturists and drove away the public. First they removed all garbage cans and such amenities from the beach. Given the numbers of people who used to come to this part of the beach, they had traby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I know this forum is about Deep Creek, not other places like San O, but don't know where else to post this info and it may be of interest. Day trip to San O yesterday, Wednesday. The state park was mostly empty mid-week, with the exception of some campers but not too many. Trail 6 was really empty. The old nude beach, as always completely empty. Naturists set up just beyond the Pendleton fenceby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
hell yeah! maybe i will do both this week. blacks during the week? by friday i will be back at pirates cove........by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes, if it were closer I'd be there all the time. But if you do some creative accounting, you could almost justify a day trip up there from LA. Going at a decent speed on the 101, it is three hours from LA. The beach is right next to where you park, just down a short hill. Central LA to Hesperia is about an hour on the freeway, then about thirty minutes on dirt road, then about an hour of hike toby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Pirate's cove in SLO is one of the best nude beaches I've ever seen. Can't recommend it enough. Can't wait to go back. San Onofre: Latest report I heard is that Rangers are not ticketing nude sunbathers like they did last year. Allen Baylis has called for users to return to the nude beach. Most still just walk 100 yards further past the old nude beach to the border of the marine base and set uby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
feel you. feel the same way. things to know: Deep Creek changes, day by day, month by month. I really never bother to go there now on the weekends, or rarely. I can always count on a more peaceful and more naturist time on the weekdays. also don't go often in July and August; head to San Onofre instead or other destinations north. Deep Creek is overrun by students, by partiers in the full summerby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
enjoy the meteors!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Subaru! Outback. And loving it so far.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It has not been a great season of DCHS visits for me this year; too busy. I usually don’t go too often in July/August - school’s out, summer temps. But since I haven’t been much at all in the spring, I decided to head out there Friday. There is still July gloom (!) in LA these days, so it was nice to escape the fog somewhere along the 210 close to Rancho Cucamonga, and of course a beautby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Thanks for those insights. I am hopeful that this is the turning point, Paul. Keeping my fingers crossed and my ear to the ground, listening for news from Allen Baylis and NAC, etc. I had just recently emailed off my annual letter of protest to the DPR. Then the scandal broke. I'm most happy to read in the NAC summary about the departure of Tony Perez. And yes, for those reading the forumby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm resurrecting this thread from last summer now that the then almost unthinkable has happened: DPR Director Ruth Coleman and at least some of her "cronies" are now out of there. Opinions/reactions? Optimism/pessimism? it's awesome to hear about how much you like the strenuous hiking, hiker. I've seen others go to Deep Creek more for the hiking than the springs, or swimming, or sunning. I'm totally about the latter, but the hiking there is so great I understand your point of view. Glad you had a great day.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Good news.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey Windsailor, it was nice to meet again and talk down there. I’ll tack on these notes to your report. First trip back for me since the fall, so I got out there as early as possible and stayed until day’s end. I agree on Bowen Ranch Road; the first two miles are as good as they ever are, but after that it is all ruts and the ranch road itself down to the parking is almost impossible at thisby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
