i was missing some jobe measurements. I always thought the Womb was hotter than Serenity. Is that because the Serenity gets some water from the Crab Cooker? I noticed on my visit last week that there is so much spring activity perhaps it was just me not noticing before. Out of all the rocks around the creek, water is seeping out everywhere. Most dramatic, if the Arizona Pool is getting hotter, isby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Oh I do know what you mean. I was talking to a lovely lady in the creek about a month back on a visit, she's a regular who has been visiting Deep Creek for 28 years, and listening to her stories and maybe I was drinking a beer when suddenly I got bit HARD by a catfish! Very close to the jewels! Someone yesterday was talking about man-eating catfish ... 300 lb monsters ... so watch out!!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
hey wizard I was at DCHS on Thursday, yesterday. My one long conversation was with this kind fellow from Minnesota. He was there again - and doing much of this again. I haven't been posting many trip reports lately, but I have been going down to the springs regular like, here is the deal with Thursday. I got to DCHS by 10 am. There was NO ONE THERE. I could see from up above that there were absolby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
its still hot up there - i wish i were there today!by neogeo - California Hot Springs
It was great to see you there hiker! Now I have to go to Gaviota, I've never been. See you at the springs like we said. After you left Saturday the sun got stronger and the clouds dispersed, and the people got more and more in number - but a really wonderful crowd. No elephant seal on Saturday like the one that came ashore Friday, but my dog found two lobster carapaces, I didn't know there were lby neogeo - California Hot Springs

the catfish are bigger than i've ever seen them ... especially the gang that hangs by the shower ... and they don't nibble, they bite!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

sounds awesome. this does seem to be an incredible week (weather) for Deep Creek visiting - wish I were there!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i always swim in the creek including diving from rocks so very much under water - never go under in the pools - but you guys are scaring me!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks for writing a report! I'm glad you had a great first visit. I'll never forget mine some years ago. (I've written about it here some time ago.) I went last week on a bad day for nude use, and that always throws me. Good to see in trip reports since that it seems to have been an aberration. i'm glad you had a better day hiker and sad i missed you down there by one!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes! Thanks Wizard, just googled the great blue heron and that is the bird I saw. Flew over the springs a few times during the afternoon, reminded me of watching pelicans fly near the coast. I first saw the herons while hiking down, they were flying below me in the canyon when I was higher up still and I could tell it was a bird I did not know and it was beautiful. I really should have hiked offby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Took a mid-week visit / day-trip to DCHS, hoping despite it being summer that it would be semi-quiet. Checked the weather, saw it would be 100, and checked on the Idyllwild fire and saw that the path of the smoke was supposed to miss the hot springs area. Got out there early. There was definitely smoke in the sky as one drove east. When you made it from LA up into the high desert, you could sby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Well, there were a ton of campers upstream yesterday. All ages, down to 13 year olds. And surprise surprise I saw a turd floating in the stream. While swimming on past it.....I feel sorry for the fish. More soon if I write up a trip report....by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I don't have it first off. Sierra: If you find this forum. I was at DCHS today. When I got back to my car, I saw a white Mustang leaving the parking lot at Bowen but no one had been hiking out in front of me for some time as far as I was aware. Wonder if it was you. Notes were left on all the cars in the lot saying that the night before Sierra lost her Canon camera in a green bag and phone numby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I read the topic line and thought maybe you were there today? I was. It wasn't that bad ("from hell" but the crowd today sucked ass. That happens sometimes but it always freaks me out as one of the reasons I like going to DCHS is the people are usually so great. Anyway I'll try to get a trip report up later or tomorrow. I have to post on something else about today first thoby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
good question. in the 28 second video they graffiti a fallen tree rather than a rock, but clearly are hiking the trail with the cans of paint in hand. Who are they? I can't figure anything out from the vimeo video.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Bringing this post back to life. Googling DCHS brought me to this video. I don't know what it is. But watch if you want to see some dipshits record themselves as self-styled "adventurers" hiking the Bowen goat trail with spray paint cans at the ready to spray paint their way to some real adventure. Idiots. http://vimeo.com/55904973by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I will let others inform you on road issues - but the 173 route to the Bradford Ridge trail is only open from the south to my knowledge, from the Lake Arrowhead side. It is the route many from LA take. It does not require an FJ or a 4x4 vehicle as the whole way to the trailhead is paved. Given that it is summer, I would not advise the Bradford Ridge route for a first time visit. The hike is lby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i did it last week - and was not the only free hiker. lots of people still do it, increasingly young people do it, from Bowen Ranch. Word of warning: the sun in these parts, altitudes, summer time, is STRONG. I had covered myself in 50 SPF, and had a towel on my shoulders to prevent my pack from chafing on the straps, and i hiked at 8:30 am to 9:15 or so - hiking in - and wound up burnt on myby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yeah, my experience at Deep Creek Thursday - no one else was picking up trash or packing out anything that I saw - made me see the trash in the hiking area near where I live in a new light, made me want to clean it myself. It's 10,000x worse than Deep Creek being an urban hike. On signs, I found this photo of a sign rope attached to one of the two metal Deep Creek signs. Maybe an idea for a sby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Returned yesterday to Deep Creek. I haven’t been in a long while - last trip was in March, when it was colder, and hiking in then I took the Bradford Ridge route. So I also returned to Bowen Ranch this time, which I enjoy for it is a fun drive with the exception of Bear Valley Road, and a much more beautiful hike than most of the Bradford route. The downside, I’ll say out of order and rigby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i'm just back from the springs. what a beautiful place it always is. i'll post a trip report but the first thing I saw today upon arriving was a beautiful woman running naked across the road before the entrance to Bowen Ranch. Not a rabbit! Some campers had set up their tent outside Bowen's driveway, they must have arrived at night, and my car caught the young woman off-guard as she was getting sby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

i'm going out this week too and will probably return to Bowen now that it's hotter. I was doing Bradford ridge during the winter. The climb down and then up is much more intense with Bradford. I actually like that, but with high heat maybe not as much. At a reasonably good pace, it will take just over an hour for most people on the way down. It has taken me 75 minutes to 90 minutes on the way outby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
