250 junk cars!Where the @!#$ did they all come from!I remember the valley when there were none and bought land there. It was really fun in the early years.I left in 1987 during the water war to travell with the Grateful Dead.I rented my place to a friend who let all sorts of people hide out there until 1994 when I evicted everyone.I returned in 1999 when I got cited by code nazis along with everyone else. There were 2 1954 buicks and an old metro van on my land with a singlewide trailer. The county threw the book at me and threatened to put leins on my land if i did not remove it all. So,I gave it all away and did a dump run.Then....the fire.It burnt all the trees
Here i am today trying to do some healing in this area.10 acres of burnt land that is slowly healing. Some of my neighbors really stirred up some @!#$ and thats a real bummer. Now,if the few people who havent cleaned up their crap would do so maybe everyone else would be left alone to live in peace.I love the Hot Springs and its a sacred place.I go early and leave when the sun hits the hill.Hiking in by earlymorinig starlight is an experience
that purifies the soul.
Today,we have a chance to change. Its time for all of us who care to work together and stop throwing stones at each other.Everyone here shares a common ground and I think its special to us all otherwise we wouldnt visit this site.
Whats new?Water guzzlers for the thirsty critters and 46 trees so far. There are no pot plants or junk cars on my land.A new day and a new light in this space! The drum is the heartbeat of the earth.

Earthhealing,

I am sorry to hear you left your property only to return with trash on it. Apparently the friend you left it with was not that good a friend. For as long as I can remember over the past 13-years that I have been visiting that area where the village is, I have only seen the village with trash or liter laying around and no one ever picking it up, it was always a mess. I was glad to hear you returned and got your place back in order / cleaned-up and hope you’ve set a good example for others in the village to follow.

I believe the village over a period of time has developed a reputation for where marijuana was either sold and/or grown, folks with transient life styles, renters and/or tenants not working and collecting some sort of welfare and etc… Then recently there was someone in there that was caught for cultivating marijuana for supposedly medicinal reasons which made front page news in the local newspaper in the high desert. And then of course we had the highly mentioned and know discussed “Village Raid” that took place way back in May of 1999.

The negative reputation is not only limited to just that of the village, but as I understand it, the Bowen Ranch has had the same problem to. Mike C. how now owns the larger portion of the ranch has mentioned to me a number of times that the general public has had a negative impression the ranch for many years. It still remains that way today, but to a much less degree, because he has been slowly turning things for the better there. Hopefully that positive change of the Bowen Ranch in the last few years will somehow work that way for the village to. Time will tell, but I feel positive feelings that things will work out for the best.

I very much agree with you regarding that it’s time for a change in the village. It’s obvious to me that you like the desert and hot springs and I am sure those of us reading your post appreciate that you have maybe perhaps can be a starting point in the village towards a positive change. It’s long over due, and hang in there.

Sounds like a great place to set up a bed & breakfast, by I doubt if local codes and zoning laws would allow it.

Nevada,

In my previous post I was referring to the “Village” when I was speaking of the cultivating of marijuana, not the Bowen Ranch. You may have misunderstood me or I may not have made it clear enough or maybe both.

Prior to Mike C. taking over the lease / ownership of Bowen Ranch, I did visit off and on with Gary and Terri there. Did they ever cultivate / grow marijuana? That I do not know.
Did Bowen Ranch have good reputation back when Gary and Terri had the place? No, because of their association with drugs and the people they associated with and also the way the place was kept.
Does Bowen Ranch have good reputation now? It’s a hell of a lot better now, than what was years ago! And getting better because of Mike C., Tanya & Kevin there now.

Nevada, I base my information on what I know first hand and on facts and probably some on what you call it, hearsay to.
Years ago I knew more people living in the village than I do now. The folks I use to associate with back in those days from the village have all moved out and I am no longer in touch with them. I met all, if not most of them at the spring’s years ago. They told me things about growing pot and where they used to grow a plant or two, (not very much). They smoked the stuff often and openly at the springs and their homes in the village.
So maybe some of what I mentioned in a previous post could be considered hearsay regarding subject matter of growing marijuana in the village or nearby. Would it be correct then to call these folks liars for what they told me? Why would I not believe them? They were not bragging about it nor did they speak of it often either, so I have no reason to not believe them.

So from my previous post, I want to make clear that I was not referring to Bowen Ranch in the cultivation of marijuana. I hope I made that point clear.
