Reiterating Paul P's posts. Rangers will not condone camping near the springs. You should camp up at the ranch. When rangers do visit, they ticket and seek out anyone with camping equipment. I have seen them passing out tickets upon arriving myself early in the morning to all the sleeping campers. I have also seen them haul people out, hike them back up to civilization, for other more serious offby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
seriously, it is a mile and one-half or two mile trail. That is barely a hike. It is well trodden and well-marked with forest service signs. If you can't follow it and need to deface the landscape with arrows, you probably should stay at home. PLEASE NO MORE SPRAY PAINT NO GRAFFITI. Respect the landscape and leave it as you found it.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

well hope that is what happens in SLO's case for this beach. don't mean to hijack this post on Deep Creek trash and on its board! last thursday at Pirates was one of the miracle days, with temps pushing 80 the whole world came down and it was so beautiful and fun. Must have been close to 80 people on the beach by lunchtime. On days like that, Pirates is one of the best nude beaches I've ever seenby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i'm just back from vacation that included multiple days hanging out at Pirate's Cove beach near SLO. On my first visit to the sand, I arrived around lunchtime and there were only scattered users, midweek, but there was a really large group of high schoolers set up at the far end of the beach - usually used as a "restroom" area. Already, on a Wednesday, by noon, they had BBQs burning, anby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

juliankaye = richard gere in amercian gigolo so I'm bettin' on him sorry jobe - anyway i'll be at the springs soon with my trash bags looking to pack some trash outby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
me too. jobe's trip report about the garbage and the broken shower is depressing but it isn't juliankaye's fault and this report is always welcome including time on the trailsby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Amazing Wizard! And so green. Thanks for sharing such images.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
if Wizard is listening i am wondering about the beautiful old picture he posted on his site of DCHS with more greenery than i've seen in the past decade of visits. Was it a super rainy year? floods? Any story to tell? it looks more like a jungle than a desert hot spring! http://www.flickr.com/photos/hotspringswizard/8527470514/in/photostreamby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
check out celtfire's facebook group - there is a spring break call out for a college student spring break camping visit one week long next week. i expect these are some skinny dippers though.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
thanks for the report - it must be spring break with 30 people on a tuesday - sorry to hear about the textiles invasion thoughby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
And I'll add that each time I've down the Bradford Ridge Trail, especially during the steep descent, I have slipped a little - the trail can bite you, and my preference is to have some protection when hiking is this challenging. I have really good trail hiking shoes, but still have slipped a bit on this trail.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes, to be clear, while I didn't like the question about shocking others, my preference is just a preference. I do free hike sometimes but for me the Bradford Ridge trail is too long, and too much sun for that to be desirable for me. I've only just begun to use the trail, and it is also too cold in the last few months for me to see free hiking as plausible. Much of the first 30 minutes of the traby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
holy shit this sounds horrible. what actually happened? Someone shot a gun at soakers? This sounds like something the police should be involved in.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Shock from them? Um, no. I'm not sure I would free hike this trail.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Great hiker. Yeah, the trail is very solitary. I saw no one as I said on the way in. On the way out, no one until the very last minutes. It was almost a shocker to come around a bend and encounter a young man followed by his parents on the trail. They were the only ones I passed hiking in while I was hiking out from 3 to 4:30 pm...by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe, I remembered your report talking about your digging out of the Arizona pool as I entered it, found it way deeper than the last time and easily sat down in water up to my neck. Mentally thanked you. Trash: the yoga doer good doer found a bag's worth. In the main spring area/beach there was not too much left lying around. Except around the sign on the main beach, where some tougher things havby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Headed to the springs today via the Bradford Ridge trail again. As per Julian Kaye’s post from yesterday, it does take just a little bit less time to reach the trailhead this way for those coming from LA. You will spend more time on the trail however, at least an hour each way with intense descent and climb involved. Which I like. I am now extremely sore sitting at home, every muscle in my legsby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i hope you are enjoying it hiker! i did it yesterday and will post a report. amazing day at the springs.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It is a slightly easier/shorter drive from LA to the Bradford Ridge trailhead. Definitely without the 6 miles of dirt road it seems shorter even if in the end it isn't too much shorter in actual time. You will hike for longer as Wizard says. As for safety for cars, I don't know the history. Someone told me there is a camera pointed at the road near the trailhead? Maybe closer to where the road isby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Hiker. I thought I might have stumbled into infamous Family Canyon. Many firsts this time. I did see given the lack of foliage that someone has a stash of stuff behind a tree up a hillside down there. One of the current "residents" I guess. Well, Sunday has dawned a beautiful day - now I wish I were at the springs again, no matter the large group visiting today!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
And thank you, I should have said, for the info on which descent or path to take at that fork. I will try the less extreme way the next time. If you look at the map that Hiker posted and I repost here, it seems like the map at least considers the steep quicker descent the Bradford Ridge "path." I guess the whole hike really is on a "path" not a trail as it is so narrow and notby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, the Arizona pool was piping hot and in use most of the day yesterday - thanks to you. I prefer the Anniversary, for it kept some shade most of the day this time of year.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
hi all. First winter visit to DCHS in my 8 years of visits. (I've never been in January or Feb.) First time trying the Bradford Ridge trail. I was helped by postings from the past on this board; from leviclancy's student reader site which has a map that lets you search directions from your origin to the Kinley Creek bridge where the trail begins; from conversations with hiker and others at the spby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
