Such a beautiful day and I was there too Fun once again visiting with long time DCHS friends and the PCT hikersby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Dan was down again yesterday with Dusty, and three of his horse riding friends came along with him. Then there also were 5 other horses down from there from the Oak Springs Ranch. That makes 9 horses at once, I think a new recordby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yesterday at DCHS there were about 50 people throughout the day. The amount mid week varies, and the weather will increase or decrease the amount. When you go through the Bowen Ranch gate and pay, then drive down toward the lower/southerly parking area, and about half way is the rough spot, stop and see what you think, then if it looks too bad, just park on the ranch somewhere before the bad spotby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The gal you are talking about Neogeo, Natalie and her new dog Luka if I remember their names correctly, I came across them when I first started down the Freedom Trail that day. I had a nice visit with her while hiking into DCHS, and she nicely enough offered to carry some of the supplies I was bringing down for the PCT hikers consumption She has always been enjoyable to talk with. And nice to meet you too Cristopherby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I went there yesterday alone, it was a great day with lots of fun conversations, dips in the creek, and relaxing soaking in the Phoenix Hot Pool Great to see you again Silver Avion!by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
There are quite a lot of Pacific Crest Trail hikers passing through. Tomorrow Thursday is forecast to be 86, then a cooling trend into Friday with 70 for a high. Either day will be good. More people usually start showing up late in the day on Friday.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes Paul I am wondering what this is about too.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
At the NITOC ( naturist in the orange county ) face book page is this comment under a post about this subject, " Steve Thomas, I spoke to the woman at the entrance. I mentioned that I was there with a naturist organization. She said that they were overwhelmed by the number of people showing up this weekend. She asked me if I knew Ron. I said, "Yes, he'a buddy of mine." She respondeby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
There is a pretty long audio at the top of the last article link I listed from Victor Valley News of scanner communication of the Sheriffs while this incident was going on. Its at a point when some of these men were approaching the Bowen Parking area. There is new information discussed that I had not heard or seen yet.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
More info about this, http://www.vvng.com/report-of-15-men-with-guns-detained-at-deep-creek/by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I just came across this new report with some additional info: https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/1086 . Notice in the report that the reporter ask the police about it and they say the report it " unfounded " , yet we see the pictures and know of other people who where there when it happened. Why the news black out and denial of it occurring, very strange to me. Its said therby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Neogeo for that additional report. I looked in today's local paper, the Daily Press and there is nothing about this incident. I am wondering why that is, since even things like rescues at the springs usually see a short report in the paper. I'll see if I can find anything else on the internet about it.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I saw some info on a face book hiking group that there was a bunch of guys that showed up at the springs in the early morning, then around sunrise they pulled out guns and starting shooting a lot, the report said for a couple of hours. Apparently no one was hurt but there are pictures showing these guys sitting on the ground in handcuffs, it looks like somewhere up on the Bowen Ranch property andby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Nice to here from you Jobe Are you still coming out this way for a visit, maybe March or April I think you mentioned awhile back?by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I went to DCHS yesterday and found that one of the bigger trees that was infested by Mistletoe has fallen over since it died some time ago. Its laying across the trail near the Anniversary Pool. I think the similar sized tree that was behind it will die and fall down too. There is a very big Sycamore just downstream from the Crab Cooker and on the hillside by the PCT that is completely full of Miby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was at DCHS yesterday soaking in the Phoenix Pool with some friends. The creek later in the day began to rise, and came within about 2 inches from coming into the hot pool. Thankfully the cold stream waters never entered the hot poolby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Cool, I just visited with Dave Tuesday at DCHS and he does normally where that sarong. That is definitely one of the things I enjoy about visiting the springs, meeting a lot of interesting peopleby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I just messaged Tom and he said he and his helpers put the boulders from the dismantled dam into the creek. Sounds like its somewhere in front of the Womb.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I have met hikers on occasion that came from the Splinters Cabin area, down the PCT to DCHS from. And then in the spring, there are lots of PCT through hikers coming down the canyon tooby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
cndvgl, where in the mountains did you move too? If you are around the Lake Arrowhead or Crestline area, then hiking the Bradford Ridge Trail will get you to Deep Creek Hot Springs much quicker than doing the long drive clear out into the desert, and the 6 miles or so up the Bowen Ranch dirt Rd. The Bradford Ridge Trail has been GPS measured at two and a half miles, so its only about a half mileby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hesperia weather would be a bit more accurate as to weather conditions for DCHS. I regularly check out this enhanced water vapor image, http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/national/satellite-wv?play=1 , and also a Nasa satellite image site, specifically the three images Goes west - pacific ocean, and during the daytime the visible image is handy for seeing what the clouds or storm systems are doing.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
For a lot of people living down the hill, they like this trail the best. I think it is about two and three quarters mile, but I have never GPS's its distance. Richard is a long time regular who is 70 years old, a ski instructor and that is the way he goes when he comes. I live in Apple Valley and used this trail at times in the winter when the creek was high and cold. But the dirt portion down toby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Joe, you don't go anywhere near Big Bear to get to the Bradford Ridge trail head. On the 210 FWY, just east of where it crosses the 215FWY, you take the road into the mountains, I think its HWY 18 that goes up to the Crestline area, then the shortest way is to work your way through the little community of Grass Valley which is east of Lake Arrowhead, then go north to reach HWY 173 and continue noby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was able to use the rock crossing just upstream from the AZ/Phoenix Pool yesterday, then the flood waters came. It will most likely be wading the creek now until sometime in the springby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I hiked to DCHS yesterday while it was raining hard, and after I was there for a couple of hours it finally let up. The creek when I arrived was up a bit, maybe 3 inches but was still near summer time levels. I soaked in the AZ/Phoenix Pool, the one furthest upstream close to the stream. Near the end of my soak I heard the rapids just upstream getting louder and knew there was a surge of water beby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Paul, I have only been soaking in the Phoenix Pool this fall, and when someone told me about what was going on it was late in the day. When I heard the sounds earlier I did not know that it was about any pool work. Usually that time of day I am talking to people. I think too that I thought that it would be something smaller than it actually is so I never walked over there that day to see what itby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes SilverAvion, the boulders used for this pool are very large. Regarding Speakeasy's question, I did happen to be there the day this pool was being built. I heard stuff going on over there, but I soaked and spent time at/in the AZ Pool/Phoenix Pool all day. In the Afternoon some people came by and I asked them about what was going on and they told me some people were building a new pool. I didby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I think that small pool and wall is not beneficial, especially this time of year when its cold. I have heard a couple of people comment that the Womb is cooler than it normally is because that new pool cools down the hot water coming from the Anniversary Pool. I like Neogeo think it is ugly too. It looks pretty solid, removal won't be easy.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When I was at DCHS Tues Neogeo, there was a brief spell of snow flurries My phone is showing rain for next Mon and Tues. Hope so Hello Jobe, so you are still alive I have been enjoying greatly all the fine work you did on what Tom Ridge and I are now calling the Phoenix Pool, since you resurrected it from its poor leaky condition. I am always telling people about your work last summer, its myby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
