Well from my understanding it rained on Saturday from talking with some locals. Didn't stick around for long because was en route from Vegas to LA and had a dinner to attend. No issues from the hut to the parking lot aside from the usual dip you need to navigate around. Anyhow, handful of folks including a small group of younger folks. You shouldn't have too many visitors on a Thursday. One thingby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Taken earlier today. No problems at all to the parking lot and later back and as you can see I don't own anything close to an off road or high clearance vehicle. Actually found the ride quality better than usual because recent rain has eliminated those small annoying bumps and kept the dust to a minimum. Quite smooth and no puddles as well. On the way out encountered three ranger trucks ... theyby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks for the update ... were there any other folks at the springs during your visit besides the regular?by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Great. I'd be curious ... some of the streets in Vegas were flooded in parts last night due to the rain as well. We were planning a short hike at Red Rock Canyon today but still debating.by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm in Vegas this week and will be driving back to LA Sunday. I'll make a detour and check it out unless someone already goes this weekend and reports. And as I brought down my personal vehicle this time, if it gets stuck, then it will make it the more interesting and I'll report on desert towing. The goods news is if I do not get stuck and make it, you will too as my car is low to the ground, reby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

As long as I'm still able to buy a car with a manual transmission I'm happy. One of the most irritating features on mine is that the engine turns off at red lights and is activated again it you touch the steering, lift off the brake or lift the clutch. Luckily they programmed it such that it you can turn it off and the car remembers the last setting or I would be tempted to tar and feather the chby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I would consider it a blessing that you have what sounds like traditional keys so hopefully the replacement cost is reasonable. I found out the hard way of what it costs to replace a smart key after I lost mine many months ago ... just over $400 not including shipping and waiting time for them to program and have it sent from Germany. The dealer told me they use propriety technology so it needs tby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Don't think it's unusual. I witnessed one in the afternoon once as well. The 4 pm timeframe is consistent with other accounts over years, seems like routine patrol. Experienced the same thing in Phoenix recently while ascending a trail. Pretty consistent in remote areas that attract a lot of hikers. It appears the world didn't end after all and yet another new year. I'm postponing my visit to DCHS for a week or two. My girlfriend and I did go for a swim after midnight though in a salt pool outside at an undisclosed location in Quebec where we are staying. The air temperature was -16C (about 3F) but with the wind chill -15F. I took a picture of the pool as nobody else was around. Salt watby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Looks like it's a balmy 50F/10C out there. Thinking of heading straight to Apple Valley during first week of Jan before returning to work. Where I am now on the east coast is 23F/-5C and although we have an outdoor hot tub, not very inviting. The coldest I ever felt up here was -40F/-40C during an ice fishing trip a few years ago at a town called Wawa (Ontario). That generated 2 feet of ice coverby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
DLM, you are one lucky dude. I do have to agree with Colleen though ... there's a ton of women out there who are sensitive to certain things us guys say or do and at times don't make this discomfort obvious. I guess that's why if a woman asks "am I fat" ... want to avoid replying with things such as "compared to what?" ... "you're pleasantly plump" ... or worse, &quoby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I think it's difficult to predict the mix. Different seasons and days attract different folks. The first few times I was there the balance was just right. In fact, met a single girl that was there by herself el natural, had some good conversation. She was a student from the east coast. Also talked with another girl the same day in the military. She was alone but her friends were hiking in the areby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That's a great spirit, hope you all enjoy the visit. At my work, we are currently concentrating efforts on stem cell therapy and making it happen. Although we deal primarily only with certain cancers and the science is still relatively immature, specifically to treat your friend's condition, but hopefully we will see viable progress in our lifetimes in regenerative medicine.by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Although I agree with SilverAvion about perhaps trying the trail first, in Phillip's defense I work in medicine and our protocol is to recommend exercise and other cardiovascular strengthening activities for hip dysplasia, especially walking/hiking, cycling ... well, and swimming. QuoteWizard All bets are off however if there is an asteriod impact in the immediate area :-) Or if that elusive beaver (and family) decide to build an adjacent dam and flood the immediate hot springs. Now that would be ironic! Although that's likely one pool that would survive and technically the extra water would befit that diver. Technically this doesn't belong here or even in the world thread as (a) it's not a hot spring and (b) someone needs to tell the woman stepping in that bathing suits take away from the allure of the surroundings ... nevertheless, probably just as relaxing as a spring. I think part of the problem is that it's difficult to remove graffiti from remote areas so the groups take advantage of that, essentially creating a war over which group's graffiti wins. NYC back in the 80s spent $32M to clean up graffiti from subway cars. I doubt there is a fund dedicated to clean anything up in the forests, although like I said above I could have sworn somebody painted some ofby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That's exactly the turn I was warned about when she saw my vehicle and said if I can't make it, to leave the car on the side of the road anywhere before the turn as long as it didn't block the road. I think any damage would have likely cost more than a few dollars. Next time I hope Hertz upgrades me to their Porsche Panamera, then maybe I can be shuttled by dirt bike to the main lot.by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The last time I was there I was told I could leave my car off of the dirt road if I was not able to make it to the parking lot as I had a Mercedes 350 sedan with low profile tires. I still made it but I guess the option is there if you don't feel comfortable. I somewhat envy the times my parents grew up in for the reasons you stated, and in the end all of us will eventually be wrinkled and grey. The last time I was there I could have sworn some of the graffiti had been painted over. I could be wrong, but if it was done, someone did a good job. Sometimes one person can make a difference, in a big way. I recall listening on NPR to the story of one individual that went to Africa and visited a village that had a high infant mortality rate. The reason was quite simply lack of clean drinking water. The villagers would need to walk a good distance to get water from a river, which was polluted from upstream activities. Well, I was scolded for it by the current woman in my life earlier today after returning home and we talked over dinner ... I knew I shouldn't have mentioned it :-) Not sure if that's a good thing because she was concerned about my safety OR a bad thing and she should lose her "current" status (luckily she doesn't read this forum - hopefully).
