If you live in the Inland Empire or Los Angeles, anywhere down south I think using the Bradford Ridge Trail route will get you to and hiking on the PCT, just a ways downstream from DCHS, quicker than going the Bowen Ranch way. The hike from the Bowen Ranch to the PCT is pretty similar to the hike from the BRT parking spot to the PCT. Its a beautiful ride through the forest and you drive a paved rby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That route is OK for two wheel drive, ones with a bit of clearance. Low to the ground vehicles are taking the chance of hitting ground in spots. When it rains or snows this road becomes muddy/slippery in places which can even be a problem for 4 wheel drive vehicles.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I have seen in various reports before where some folks think that DCHS is in some way either owned or otherwise involved with the Bowen Ranch in some legal manner. The Bowen Ranch is an 80 acre piece of private property about a couple of miles to the north of these springs which are located well within the San Bernardino Forest area, public lands. Neogeo, if you have ever seen the movie Apocalypto, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngWBddVNVZs , " Apocalypto depicts the journey of Jaguar Paw, a Mesoamerican tribesman who must escape human sacrifice and rescue his family " , I thought I would think of myself as Raven Paw during my hikes in Granite and Fair View Mountains. Many years ago before Mike ever bought the Bowen Ranch property there was another public route for access to the springs. About a quarter mile before you got to the Bowen Ranch you would turn left off the Bowen Ranch Rd and would then go south past an old area ( with buildings ) called the Moss Mill, then you would continue on south, and for a time the road was so good you could drive a two wheelby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hello Neogeo I was out hiking today in the beautiful mountains of northeastern Apple Valley. It was a wonderful day, having my lunch at the top of the mountains in rock formations that make you feel like you are on another planet! As I came over a ridge looking down a small canyon I spotted Bobcat. It looked back at me then disappeared down a crag. At this site you can see recent pics of DCHS. Since the nights have been getting colder I would guess that maybe the creek is getting down to 70 degrees or below. No rains yet so the creek crossing will be easy https://www.instagram.com/explore/locations/236291933/deep-creek-hot-springs/by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
" Bowen Ranch is going to be closing to all parking for the springs " is just referencing parking on the Bowen Ranch Property and is not implying DCHS would be closed. There are many ways to access DCHS besides using that small 80 acre private property for parking. I doubt the USFS would mess with the pools at DCHS as it is a very popular destination for hikers, and the PCT runs by therby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hmmm, not something that I would expect to be going on down in that area of Deep Creek. Its such a rough area with steep hills, sandy terrain and lots of boulders. The article says they found 1904 plants. Weird that anyone could do something like that without their plants being spotted by the regular law enforcement helicopters and planes seeing it going on when they fly over. In this initial image showing Aaron running into the fire my daughter thinks the thing hanging from his neck looks like a water bottle hanging from a lanyard. My daughter and I were watching the live stream of the Saturday night burn up until about a half hour before the incident. The next morning I saw on face book a series of very clear still images from a Reuters reporter that showed this man sprinting towards, and then into the fire. He had something hanging from his neck. It may have had some sort of religious significance to him. The first coupleby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I hiked to DCHS on the Bradford Ridge Trail Tuesday. Using this route its pavement to the trailhead, whereas its about 7 miles of dirt road to the Bowen Ranch. There is no fee to park at the BRT. I'm not sure if an adventure pass is required there, I did not have one. Its a beautiful ride through the SBNF forest going to the BRT Since I live in the high desert my route goes by Lake Gregory, theby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I heard the helicopter and figured something was going on. Later at the peaceful Deep Creek spot where I was as I was cooling off in the creek I saw a shadow move across the pool and granite rocks in front of me then looked up to see it was a beautiful Osprey!by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It sounds like you are familiar with both of those routes to DCHS from the split before the Bradford Ridge Trail hits the PCT. Some people last year tried to use the less steep route on their way back and since they had not done it before they passed by the beginning of the BRT on their left which goes up the Bradford Ridge and they kept hiking down the canyon on the PCT for quite a ways until thby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Over the years have hiked into the Deep Creek Canyon using various steep ridges as my routes. I find for myself that going back out I take small steps, take more breaks, and definitely don't do the steeper hills in the hotter time of the day. You could take the steep shorter trail at the split going, then coming back take the longer but less steep main Bradford Ridge Trail on the way back.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Questions sent to the DCV website go to me. I got this one a couple of days ago, " Your descriptions of Deep Creek And Bowen Ranch at http://www.deepcreekvolunteers.com/ are really informative and accurate – except for one distance, the length of the hike down to the springs. In years past I never saw any Ospreys in my hikes at Deep Creek. Then about five years ago I saw one. Since them I have seen a few. On the subject of a bird of prey with a fish in its talons.
