After the huge 2011/2012 floods, it was what created the present day large beach area of sand just north of the Phoenix Pool. I hiked down just shortly after that and there was a 10-12 foot wall of sand going up steeply like a huge bank near the Phoenix Pool. It held together because of the moisture in the sand. As it dried out it began to collapse into a smoother shape. Since then things have chby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The Womb temp varies. Things that affect this pool ( like the others ) are air temp and circumstance related to the hot water flowing into it like what is going on with the hot water flow at the Anniversary Pool. People will use diversions to run more or less water into the Anniversary pool so the more hot water that is directed into the that pool can mean the water is less hot once it leaves theby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hello Paulespo, I was down there at the spring today and the creek level has dropped a lot. The Serenity Pool and Phoenix Pool are close to the same height above the creek, but its the Phoenix Pool that will go under first in flooding. Today the Phoenix Pool still had creek water going into it. Somebody built up a small little soaking pool just on the north end of it against the bank. Jobe hiked to the springs this afternoon and he opted not to try and cross the creek. The stream level is now about a foot below the dam of the Womb so it will warm up again but will have leaves and some mud in it from the flooding. Another regular did do the crossing and soaked for a while.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Great job on the graffiti removal Paulespo! This morning a long time DCHS friend sent me a photo taken at the springs, the view looking across Deep Creek from the beach on the Bowen Ranch side. He was asking me if we got a lot of rain and if the photo was current. It appeared from the pic he sent that the stream level was high enough to just be into the Womb which I see is confirmed in your pics.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The snow level from this storm does not look like its too low, maybe around 6,000 feet, and the temps are warmer so I think you would be fine driving too and hiking the Bradford Ridge Trail.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The storm offshore looks like it will be hitting mostly north of us, and the forecast for Monday right now is sunny, no rain. Seems if this all pans out you should be OK, even though the Bowen Ranch Rd will probably not be in the best condition.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Paul, regarding your mentioning above of a " well known presence " of various groups here in the high desert, you listed Hesperia and Apple Valley. Where are you getting that information, what source, sources? Where is the racist graffiti, on the Bowen Trail, at DCHS? Jobe said he had noticed more graffiti on the trail on his way hiking to the springs. Down around the Mohave Forks Dam the graffiti is really bad all along the PCT and down in the canyon too.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Great job on all of your efforts of cleaning up Paulespo! Yes the 2 inch size would be most ideal. You might google online and see what is available. The pool hose style works better since they are much more flexible than other types of hoses. I really like seeing the Blue Heron's down at Deep Creek. My wife's brother is a long time resident of Mammoth. We will be going up there for a visit in mid February. Last year around the same time we went and there was so much snow in town it looked like Switzerland! While our daughters went skiing my wife and I headed down to Wild Willeys for a soak. Awesome views of the surrounding mountains from there! The next day I went back to the same hot pool oby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Hello Paulespo, 25 feet of hose is what I have found it takes to clean the bottom of the Womb all the way back into that void section under the cliff face. Yes I used duct tape to secure the end of my inch and a half pool hose to the end of the aluminum, expandable pole that I used so I could just be on the surface of the pool looking down with my mask and using a snorkel so I did not have to keeby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Paulespo, so there is some sand left on the bottom of the Womb. Don't tell Jobe, he will try to get it all out, if he can I was wondering how your going about vacuuming the Womb. I use to have a 20 ft, inch and a half pool hose hidden down there ( so as not to hike it in and out ) and also I had a five foot section of another hose that I could attach to it, combined around 25 feet which I foundby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Our daughter went with a friend today to the springs, using the Bowen Ranch for parking. She told me about the $10 per person charge. She said a lot of the people at DCHS were talking about the changes happening at the Bowen Ranch. I wonder what was up with needing three helicopters to rescue one person with an ankle injury? Sounds like the Freedom Trail and Bradford Trail will be getting more uby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
" So just to say any bikes out there should stick only to roads and trails made for them. ", they won't. I used to many years ago hike down various canyons to Deep Creek, and back then there were no moto trails in them. Now the northern side of the canyon is criss crossed all over and it is the same throughout that whole area up there. This illegal activity is not controllable. I have seen over the years various trails, those frequented by horses, and cattle, and ones ridden by mountain bikes. The livestock damage the trails a lot, especially when the ground has been softened up by rain. On the other hand mountain bike tires don't do much to trails. For me, I hike across landscapes regularly where there are no trails, in places that livestock or mountain bikes cannot goby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Back in the 80's friend's and I used to ride our mountain bikes up the PCT like Paul did from the Mojave Forks Dam to DCHS. I think these days the rules for the PCT do not allowed mountain bikes or any " vehicles " in general. In the part of that route near the dam the PCT goes across a very steep hillside. People have died on bikes going over the side/ off the trail before. Another friby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
If the Bowen Ranch access does ever get closed Neogeo you can still camp in the BLM or USFS lands around the 80 acre Bowen property. Its safer to find an " out of the way " place away from the main popular parking spots. Or there is a very nice campground up near Lake Arrowhead that I have camped at before ( Dogwood ) with my family. They even have shower facilities! The Moss Mill route once you leave the private Property area going south winds around and eventually hits what used to be called 3N59A ( it may be designated as something else now ), and then you travel 3N59A on down to the USFS parking lot. Since all of that route except for the small portion across the private land is on either BLM or USFS lands, then it seems to me it would be legal to travelby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
On last Sunday there where people jumping into the big creek pool near the Phoenix Pool. Yes you are right Paul, the Moss Mill route is the one on the east side of the Bowen Ranch. You can see where that route when you cut south off of the Bowen Ranch Rd cuts for a short distance through an edge of what is a 40 acre parcel, at least in the past owned by I think a couple named Kevin and Tanya, friends of Mike. Where that route leaves the private property portion you can see two smallby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was talking to Jobe down at DCHS this last weekend about this story that Mike might close his property as a springs access route. Jobe said Mike has said on many other occasions over the years that he was going to do this. I see there is a 6 foot chain link fence up on the Bowen Ranch northern boundary. I think Mike owns an 80 acre parcel. I wonder if the fence is up around the whole property?by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
There is an article about this in our local high desert Daily Press newspaper this evening. There is a part ;that says the one man last saw his brother swimming in one of the larger pools " at " DCHS. The only hot pool you could swim across, maybe two strokes would be the Womb so this deceased man may have been swimming in the large creek pool in front of the hot pools. The Bull Frogs have proliferated from downstream. I had seen a lot of bull frogs many years ago down in the forest of Cottonwoods in the Mohave Narrows area by Spring Valley Lake.
