" Every day is Hike Naked Day at Deep Creek ", Bingo!!!by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes I remember Neogeo! That tray kept refilling with more cups, like some sort of magic! Ah so many great memories of fun times at the springs, great trip reportby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Paulespo, quite a day of pool cleaning you did, a gift to the springs from you! Are you young, that is a lot of work. The weather was cooler last week so that helped I'm sure. I wonder if that bag you put your hose a supplies in will be immune to the raiding squirrels and rodents. They do like to investigate and chew rubber/plastic hoses. Good of you to carry out the trash that others left too Lby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I think a nick name for those are Choke Cherries. My dogs used to eat them off the bush when in season. I have tried them and when ripe the fruit is sweet but the skin is bitter. You could try calling Scott Eliason who is ( or was ) the USFS botanist. His number at the time was 909-382-2830. He may know something about how to germinate them. I tried growing from the small purple fruits of the Desby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
So you are a " rock hunter " Go explore the shores of Lake Mohave where you will find the most amazing diversity of stone types I have ever seen in one place, being rounded by the action of water flow. Old theories thought the Grand Canyon ( that and Black Canyon where I think these rocks came from ) was carved over the eons by the erosion of the Colorado, but more recent evidence suggby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Paulespo, if the Womb was in my back yard filling it a bit with some sand is what I would do. But like you said you can't go wrong just sticking with cleaning and vacuuming the pools. I used to keep a 20 foot, inch and a half pool hose down there hidden in the bushes in a five gallon bucket with a lid to keep the rodents from chewing on it. You just line the inside of the bucket with that size hoby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Last year in the summer the yellow jacket wasp were just horrible around the Phoenix and Anniversary Pool areas on certain days when I was there. So bad that I could not eat my lunch in peace and had to retreat! I had never seen anything like that there before regarding the wasp.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Great report! I have noticed in looking at the various instagram pics not seeing any of the " regulars " in them. Good to know Jobe is still going. He came by for a visit at our home a few weeks ago and I was wondering if he might have headed back to Florida as he was thinking about. Regarding those squirrels, I think it was you Neogeo that told me how one day down there they chewed aby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hello George, miss seeing you at DCHS too, and refreshing myself with your tasty brew you have shared with me at times! Regarding the Womb and algae. It could very well be that no one has vacuumed it out in a good while, and if so algae builds up over time in a deep layer at the bottom of the pool. When folks get in and move about the algae being light gets stirred up and swirls around. In past fby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hello Paulespo I have over the past many years at different times cleaned the various pools at DCHS. Not lately though as I have been hiking in the desert Mountains of north eastern Apple Valley, such beautiful landscapes! There are of course other folks who also have done lots of cleaning, a good example being Jobe, a long time regular. He also with his great cement work revived the Phoenix Pooby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
On the Bradford Ridge Trail where you reach that split, the one to the right being steeper, and the one to the left less steep, on the left path, if you go down ( roughly ) a couple of hundred feet or so where you would on the original route go across an area which is slippery with decomposed granite, at that point you can go to your left and stay on top of the ridge, a way I find to be better wiby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yeah I know Antranik a lot of people had fun with the slack line. On the other hand there are/were also folks who preferred seeing the pond looking natural out in front of the hot pools without an artificial construct there across it, 24/7, 365 days a years as has been the case for some years regarding the slack line installation. It seems from its recent removal that perhaps the USFS do not wantby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
DCHS with no slackline, just like the old days, and we had a lot of fun back then When the Zombie Apocalypse is over, there will be less people at the springsby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Clothing optional recreation at DCHS and in the surrounding area of the San Bernardino Forest has been accepted and allowed. You can look at the SBNF website and it discusses an exception of not being within one quarter mile of the T-6 crossing. I have not heard of any changes on this. DCHS is being visited by a lot more people and some of them do not know about the clothing optional rules for thby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When I hiked through there ( Horse Spring Campground ) some years ago I did not find the " horse spring ", which I gather is where it got its name. On the west side of the campground I did see some wet ground with grass which indicated some water but it looked like something that would just dry up in the hot months. Yes, I always enjoyed your presence Jobe and our many conversations and fun times, along with all the efforts over the years that you gave to make DCHS a better place. Really, the hippie vibe has waned at the springs because of increasing social media exposure in recent years. Not that you ( Jobe ) did not add to it ( the hippie vibe ) when you where there I have talked to many people who have sby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I spoke with Jobe this evening and he said that today because of the recent rains the creek was up, covering the Phoenix, Serenity and Crab Cooker Pools. He cleaned out the Anniversary Pool yesterday with the pool hose, and said today he was planning on doing the same with the Womb Pool but ended up chatting with the other visitors. He also said he saw and watched for some time a Bobcat on Mo Foby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The parking area you have mentioned down the Bowen Ranch trail a ways is the USFS parking spot. The Freedom Trail parking area is out west of there about two thirds of a mile or so. The two routes you highlighted on your map used to be open in years past but are now both closed. The route I wrote about before going around the Bowen Ranch on its west side, 2.3 miles to the Freedom Trail, is also tby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When you are nearing the Bowen Ranch, about a couple hundred yards or less from it, you can turn right onto a public rd and from there go aprox 2.3 miles, taking every left hand turn going in to get to the parking spot for the Freedom Trail. Hike south from there which takes you down into a canyon, then follow the canyon, in downstream direction, the trail will be clear to see. Oh, they are out there! Just like my old desert rat DCHS friend used to tell me for years The thing is, they are not only " out there ", he said they have been living with us for a very long time. Many types, some he referred to as " Grey Backs ". He used to email me the regular communications between the " Galactic Federation " leaders to their followers here on eaby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The river is pretty cold this time of year, a temp Polar Bears might like The organism gets in the pours around the hair follicles causing irritation there. Some people think if you rinse off after being in the pools that doing this is a partial help, but I don't think so. Its about exposure time in the hot/warm pools. Yes, it is something that other people ( including myself ) have been affected by after longer soaks at DCHS, more prevalent in certain hot pools. It is caused by a natural organism that lives in the water, https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/001460.htm , and is mostly experienced in the cooler months/winter when people soak for longer times. And from my experience it seems to be worse after raiby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Tomorrow for this area, Apple Valley, the weather is showing partly sunny and no chance of rain, high around 55. The conditions at DCHS should be pretty similar. The visitation will probably be pretty light because of the recent storm and cold weather. If you want to have more people around go in the warmer months. The rain is not a lot and moving through pretty quick tonight, and the snow level is supposed to be down to around 4000 ft which will mean little runoff, at least until it gets warm again, not this week. The road around the ranch to the Freedom Trail is a little rough but a truck does it fine. There will be some muddy/slippery spots so watch for that and don't slide off the rd. Hello Alan, thank you for the BDay greeting! I started out my day at 3AM going out to see the very bright Super Moon. So much light I could actually see some dim colors in the landscape, and my shadow was very distinct and dark. A bit later around 4AM got to watch the full moon eclipse. I read that the last time there was a Super Blue Blood Moon was about 150 years ago. Cool that it happened on mby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

The only time I can remember when the DCHS area was closed was after the Willow Fire. The springs area, vegetation did much better, it was like a jungle down there! A whole lot of people were there from around 1 PM until near sunset. The only pool this time of year that gets the sun is the Phoenix Pool, and it was pretty hot as usual but I still dipped in it a number of times I noticed in the afternoon two couples that came to the big beach area, and the two guys where caring rifles with scopes.
