Over the years have hiked into the Deep Creek Canyon using various steep ridges as my routes. I find for myself that going back out I take small steps, take more breaks, and definitely don't do the steeper hills in the hotter time of the day. You could take the steep shorter trail at the split going, then coming back take the longer but less steep main Bradford Ridge Trail on the way back.
