I do have a copy of Mrs. Bowen's book and can probably duplicate it for the famous "Ursus Laughingus." I do like you idea of a collaborative effort producing a new volume of Deep Creek Hot Springs stories collected over the last 50 years or so. Should it have a particular theme or just remembrances and tall tales? Hell, we get a lot of the latter posted here on the forum. Jobe, One thing about humans is they do remember behavior. You or I can declare ourselves to be mostly faultless in our dealings with others, but our actions here and there are remembered and collectively form patterns in the observers' memory banks. Bill (me) or Jobe, for instance, can claim to be modest, kind, respectful and good to children and animals, but sometimes our observed behaviorby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I do remember the days, 38 years ago, when Mrs. Bowen collected $1 per person at the Bowen Ranchhouse. I wished I had captured that lovely lady on film. She was really special. People did ride motorcycles down to the springs in the 70s, occasionally using the goat trail, but usually by way of the wide road upstream, now closed thank goodness. I wonder about the severity of the punishment meeted out for that kind out of violation. If it doesn't truly hurt where's the motivation to not commit anti-Mother Earth crimes. Just wondering.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
www.soak.net is a great resource for all hot springs lovers. It's great to see it back in operation. Thanks, Jobeby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ah, but this monday, the 18th is Presidents Day celebrated by many schools and some workplaces. It might gather more folks at the sacred place, but the cold stream will likely keep others away. Have a good time, Neil, and carry trash out left by less caring people.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I don't believe there is any source of hot water on Bowen Ranch, but I know of a verified rush of very hot air coming from that place day and night.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I smell that publicity addict, Miguel Castro. "Bowen Ranch Hot Springs," indeed!by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
There will always be fools and A-holes who refuse to do the right thing like bring drinks in unbreakable bottles. Some years ago I patched up a young man's foot cut to the bone by broken glass in the creekbed. After bandaging his wound I gave him some aspirin with codeine and saw him and his friend off up MoFo on the painful walk back to the ranch. I expect that those kinds of "accidentsby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
From: http://www.whale.to/vaccines/amoebas.html Indeed, Seidel et al. (1982) reported on a successful treatment of primary amoebic meningoencephalitis. A nine-year-old girl complained of a mild headache, nausea, vomiting and increased lethargy. On the morning of admission she was unresponsive. Moving amoebas were found in her cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The girl and her family had been swimming iby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A young woman who visited Deep Creek Hot Springs in the early 70's contracted Naegleria and subsequently died in hospital. During the 3-day Memorial Day weekend of 1978 a young pre-teen girl camped at the springs with her parents. After returning home in Los Angeles the girl became seriously ill and was rushed to UCLA Medical. The prelimimary diagnosis was meningitis of some variety, and as parby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Money doesn't just talk, It sings loudly and operatically. I hope that saner minds prevail regarding OHV misuse of California parkland. I think I'll sit right down and write Arnold a letter.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Oh BeeEss, Dan. You should take your act on the road and maybe visit O'Reilly or Hannity. Those guys love fantasy stories, especially about "Environmental groups." Have you ever walked the "goat trail" to the springs? The impact of boots, sandals/flipflops and bare feet on the terrain has altered it little in the 37 years I've hiked it. Shame on me, but I do think as long as there's a fire near the creek it should barbecue a couple of granite taggers with flames fueled by their infernal spray paint cans. Feck Em!by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Well it's good to know that someone is enjoying the wonderful creek and hot springs. I haven't been for over two years for a number of reasons including having my ticker fixed last year. I'd be up now, except my lady and I are on our way to Big Sur to see our daughter wed a very nice guy on Saturday. I will be dippin' in the creek a week or two after that. Drop me your pictures and I'll recipby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When we're not cops we don't naturally think like them. Some of the lead detectives on the Nicole Brown Simpson made evidence handling mistakes that should make rookies cringe. Beating up on Mike for not thinking like a cop isn't quite fair. Let's beat up on Dubya..... He's always an easy target. ;-)by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, Mike sent me the same photo of the sandblaster. It only weighs a couple of pounds to carry and when loaded with abrasives weighs up to 50 lbs. The bad part is that it also requires a gasoline powered air compressor to work and those weigh quite a bit. I don't think we should do anything without the permission and aid of the USFS, but the longer that insulting defacement remains on thby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Sorta like my pal, Spencer Tunick, and his profession of getting large numbers of folks to drop their duds in the middle of well known cities throughout the world and everybody benefits. Spencer makes money, the cities gain prestige and accompanying tourist dollars and the participant models have a real great time. Everybody wins. Regarding the paint cans, I don't imagine the folks who discovered them made like good CSI folks and had the authorities check for prints. I'd bet that the taggers, or at least some of them, are already known by the local police.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I don't know, Rick...... I think I saw a guy swimming in Deep Creek many years ago who closely resembled the recently departed creature in the picture, although the fella I saw swimming was a bit heavier and had more body hair.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, does Brad Burns plan to do anything about the new graffiti or will it be left up to the volunteers? Graffiti always pisses me off wherever I see it, but our sacred hot springs environment being violated really fires me up. Those gangbangin' fookers! That white patch of modern Neanderthalic defacement is right at the beach where my friends and me loved to day camp and swim these past 37 years. We're going to have to work together to identify the defacers. Where do they enter the forest? Do they come in through Bowen Ranch and will Mike Castro help with a campaign to protect the creek environment? Can the locaby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
