Back in the 1970s three friends and I were in my tiny Fiat wagon on Bowen Ranch Road on the way back to the city. I was driving my wannabe Ferrari through the curves and straights near the cattle guard when a VW Bug bounced off my front fender as I drove into a "chicane." After stopping, the other driver apologized profusely and admitted guilt for the accident. He said he had insurance and would pay for my damages. Just then, one of my companions, an engineering student, informed me that both vehicles were across the center of the road and that my car had hogged even more of the carpath than the other guy. Oops! I admitted to the other driver that we were both at fault and with a handshake parted company.

Just two miles farther along the road we came upon another accident where two cars had collided at high speed and a passenger was fatally injured. Ever since that day I've driven BR Road like a nervous grannie and entered each curve with extreme caution.
