hey all i'm in celtfire's facebook group and saw the post about sunday at the springs. i'm also in the facebook group for cougar hot springs up in oregon. their current thread is going back and forth between complaints, well known to us down here, from people saying that the big crowds at their springs this past weekend were all suited springers, all textiles. And some saying don't judge people fby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
If I can be there, I will be there - marking the calendar now. I remember when we organized a day in May a few years ago and many showed up. Celtfire caught me in a photo - skinny dipping in the creek. If I can make, hope to bring friends.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A quiet but blissful day at the springs for the holiday season. Forecast was sun and high 60s, but the Apple Valley temperature was 34 degrees as I drove along Bear Valley Road at 7:30am. Not much warmer by the time I got to Bowen Ranch, where Mike was greeting but not many cars were yet parked - just 2. The cold air scrapped my plans for free hiking, but the hike was beautiful nonetheless. Birdsby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i will put the digital explainer on your holiday wish listby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
You need a digital thermometer. We need more accurate measurements! jobe, i always display my ignorance on here, sorry in advance, but why does the arizona pool constantly fill with sand? is there a way to stop it? And maybe you don't want to post on here, but I wouldn't mind digging it out next time I'm down there but don't know where the tools are! I assume there is a stash.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yeah, I understood the poster to be asking about riding his bike out to the trailhead, not to the springs. But another issue has been raised: Does Bowen Ranch allow motorcyclists, not dirt bike riders, but street bikes, to park like cars on its land, in its parking lot? I don't see why it shouldn't be that way. Though you would have to drive 6 miles of dirt road on your motorcycle to get to the rby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Out there a few days ago when it was wet, dirt bikes could be heard pretty constantly in the distance, or not so distant actually - and they had really ripped up areas near and off the Bowen Ranch Goat Trail. Causing erosion and damage, marring the landscape. This is probably why Bowen Ranch doesn't want bikes coming out there.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
thank god!! I was so sad about this and I hardly know you. Wishing you all happiness up in tahoe.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm sorry Jobe. I was at the springs today. Talked to some of the same folks I assume you talked to. I have used all of my computer skills to search for information on what might have happened, but can find nothing also. I didn't make the connection between Aubriana and Avadog - thanks for letting us know.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I am so sad to hear this. I met Aubriana on my last visit to the springs, a while ago now. I obviously don't know her as well as many of you do. But she was someone who struck me as extremely beautiful and lovely, with her dog, and her music, and her openness to all and her evident joy. It radiated from her upon my first encounter with her. I mentioned her briefly in my last trip report on the boby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

my further 2 cents. I like camping up at Bowen or near my car. You can hike down to the springs, spend as long as you like. But hike up, get some exercise, it's good for you. And you can bring a huge cooler with all the cold beer and cans of Pringles you like. It's how I do.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I do live in the now Jobe! I do! It wasn't 5 years ago. But maybe, just maybe, I was posting what I posted so that the many (many many) people who read this forum without signing up or commenting, folks wondering about visiting the springs, would think the rangers were regularly coming down. My post was an attempt at...strategy. Maybe the rangers will return soon. They have ... in the not too dby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
i like to get to the springs early early and I've definitely seen rangers there rousing campers out of their bags and tents to give them some nice fat tickets. and in one case, to hike a guy out for having an underage girl in the tent and weed - so they do patrolby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
joel dahl - because of pics you've linked to here or posted about deep creek, i feel like i recognized you last time i was down at dchs - with your dad? an older man. just to say, i know i've seen videos on youtube of people with their babies in the pools at deep creek. check them out. mostly in the serenity pool. and i've definitely been at breitenbush hot springs with my hippie brethren with thby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

"In both situations, water of 100 degrees F originated in deep subterranean springs. And on scanning fragile books, I usually do just use that thing we still call a photocopy machine - I don't really see the difference between self-made scans and a high quality one usually, if you know what you are doing.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
mohave, as I posted on Wizard's comments last week or so, I am very interested to read the memoir, learn that history. So keep me posted if you do scan your copy. As I mentioned, I used my academic access to search for the book in many library systems, even across the country via interlibrary loans but could not find a single available copy! hi jobe most times i've been out to DCHS via this route lately i see road construction or paving (Central earlier in the summer, for example). Last time, two weeks back, I arrived and they were regrading the dirt part of Ocotillo and seeming to work on regrading the right turn before you hit Bowen Ranch Road, the dirt road just prior to it as you go out on Ocotillo. I thought maybe a day or twoby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Wizard, I'm sorry this happened to your Flickr. Clearly you should not change anything about the pictures you publish, they are beautiful and anyone will still be able to enjoy them, just with the annoying warning and the offer to "see the kittens" instead. I think Yahoo owns Flickr. They recently purchased Tumblr too. On Tumblr, a lot of the naturist blogs are being treated as pornby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The book should now be in the public domain. It was self-published in 1961 (was it even ever copyrighted?) There is no way anyone can profit from this book, except used book stores. It is long out of print and a search I've just done yields only two online copies for sale (the title is "Bowen Escapades" - one for 90 and one for 150 dollars. Wow - thanks to you both. I've met some wild dogs near Bowen Ranch, they've come right to my car. I'm not surprised the cold spring is used that way. And I love history lessons. I'll search for Celtfire's links - I know he used to go by the tag Viejo Bill.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Here's a question, I've been wondering about. My last few times out at Deep Creek, I've noticed a very verdant green area below the Bowen Ranch parking area. Looking at some topo maps posted here and on Celtfire's facebook page, I've noticed an area near the Bowen parking marked "Spring." You can kind of see into this green area when hiking back to Bowen when you get to the dirt road beby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
yes thanks jobe i do know after a decade of visits the name of all the pools and the Arizona pool! so that said, i do still think there is a change with the sand area at the base of the big rock across from the Womb. I used to hang out there and sun there all the time without the spring beneath my feet burning and blazing! Things are always changing.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
