Oops, I rinse with it AFTER soaking!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I never had the problem until after the Willow Fire. My solution has been a 2-liter bottle of tap water to which I add a bit of lemon juice. I rinse with it soaking and it seems to help me a lot. Somehow I didn't really freeze in Ohio but I'm still hoping for a soak soon. And happy (late) birthday to you Wiz!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Sam, No problem, I can give you directions, etc if you e-mail me ... I don't want to post directions on the internet if you know what I mean. natur_lover@yahoo.com. Hope you can make the trip!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Wiz! I'm still here lurking in the background. Happy birthday and hope you have a great time at the springs. Wish I could be there but I will be freezing my butt off in Ohio that weekend! My twin sister is getting married on your birthday! So enjoy the warmth for me.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Superb job, Ron! Many thanks!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wiz, I think that is an excellent suggestion! Maybe we should also mention this in the letter that Ron is currently drafting.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ron, I responded to your e-mail and I like the effort you put into the letter. I agree with the message but I had some suggestions. Thanks for all your dedicated hard work!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Oops, Rick I guess you posted your reply as I was posting the article. Sorry.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I tend to believe that the DCV should obey the closure ... but my second thought is, "What is happening to the place without our influence?" There are certainly people visiting the hot springs right now. Are they taking out all their trash? Do they know the proper ettiquette? Do they know the USFS rules, like no camping and fires? I'm torn between obeying the closure and wanting tby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Southern California Edison has announced that it may take the unprecedented step of shutting down power in bark beetle-infested forests in San Bernardino and Riverside counties under hazardous conditions of high, sustained winds and low humidity. Cool pictures, Wiz! I really wish I could have been there. I sure had bad luck ... two colds in a row for your last two trips ... next year I will have to have better luck!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hmmm, I've never heard of that one ... but it sounds like another good source. I will have to look for it soon. Thanks for clearing up my misunderstanding! For Fales, if you went through a fence you must have snuck into the closed resort. There is no fence to go through for the ditch. It's in a culvert under the road.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I meant the ditch - the resort is still closed and off limits.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Oops, Paul meant Hot Springs and Hot Pools of the Southwest. And I agree with the other comments as well ... Fales is worth exploring but only so you have been there ... Memorial Day Weekend when we drove past it was only lukewarm.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Some friends of ours mentioned the accident to us ... it sounded like the story they heard (out at BM) was the person was drunk. That part may have been simple gossip though ... it isn't mentioned in the newspaper article.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Wizard and welcome home!! It sounds like you had some very nice trips. We're sorry we missed the trip to the lake. And when I tried to call you I somehow called your home phone. Sorry about the mix-up. I was still getting over that killer cold I had when you visited Remington. I was so tired I couldn't get everything packed. We've missed your boat trip 2 years in a row now - what a bummby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey, Wizard? Are you home yet? Tell me/us about your trips. Sorry we missed you but we hope you had a good time on both trips. Is anyone having lightning storms? There's lots of them over this way.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Didn't seem closer at the time LOL We just followed the instructions in the hot springs book. Sometimes they are good, sometimes they just plain suck. This time was a combination ... it said to follow route 144 through the city but it wasn't marked anywhere on the streets. We ended up stopping to buy a Santa Barbara map ... the rest went pretty well.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hopefully you will know a better way ... we went hwy 101, route 144, Stanwood Dr, El Cielito Rd, Gibraltar Rd to Camino Cielo.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Paul P for your advice and information. I have the ranger phone number and will call to check on the roads before our next trip.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
We will probably try to make another trip when the weather is cooler and hopefully before the winter rains come to mess up the roads. Have you ever used the Mono Campground? One other thing ... a hunter told us he had seen a bear north of Big Caliente up in the hillside somewhere. Paul P, please let me know how your future visits go. Thanks!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I forgot to mention how scenic the areas were ... it was a very pretty drive and a great location to soak and take in the beauty. We seemed to be the only non-locals ... everybody we spoke to was from Santa Barbara. They were amazed that we had traveled so far to visit the hot springs. We did find one couple that my husband had met once before at Remington Hot Spring. They were camped in theby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

One more comment ... would you be including a list of our members? I think it would be a good idea to show our membersip numbers.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Have you tried looking up acronyms at http://www.acronymfinder.com/? It may help ...by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I agree with everyone's suggestions here so far. My only suggestion would be to clearly state the purpose of the letter in the first sentence of the first paragraph. After that we could describe our group's purpose ... but our primary reason for the letter should be stated upfront.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Jobe and thanks Paul P ... would you expect many people out there at the springs? The air temps sound pretty good. Is there a fee for using the campgrounds? should I expect many people at the campgrounds? if they are full, is it ok to camp in the "wilderness"? thanks for all your information!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Does anyone know the daytime temps at Agua/Big Caliente and Little Caliente Hot Springs? We were kicking around the idea of going there for Labor Day weekend ... camping and all. But would the temperatures during the day be really hot? What kind of camping is allowed? Near the springs? Will it be crowded? Thanks for any information anyone can share!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Do you have any other information on this hot spring? What's the water temp/quality? etc. I was talking to a "local" and they told me it wasn't really much of a soak ... wasn't worth going through the trouble to find. I think he called it by a different name though. I seem to remember him telling me it was a warm spring ... mabye that was the name he called it ... something like warby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
