sycamore, I only brought it up because you asked for ways to improve DCHS. It's a greater nuisance to me than the litter. I would never pretend I like the rock stacking ... last time I was there I was swimming in the creek and looked over towards the rock crossing upstream and noticed all the rocks stacked. To say the least, it was not an enjoyable thing to witness. Anyway, we don't seem toby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
One way to lesson the negative impact on the springs and trails is to eliminate the rock stacks ... it diminishes the beauty of nature itself.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

sycamore, Please refrain from making unbased assumptions. "Most people who buy into William and Gail's stories are those who already have an axe to grind with Mike Castro...such as people who have been turned away at the ranch, or locals who feel that the shortest path to the springs from their places should be free to them even though it crosses private property." I don't have an &qby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I wonder if there is some confusion between mountain bikes and dirt bikes ... I believe Gary is talking about mountain bikes. I agree that dirt bikes would do lots of damage to the trails and create trenches while a mountain bike doesn't.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Maybe DCV could consider permanently posting (under plastic or something to protect it from the weather) one copy (both sides) for informational purposes for visitors to DCHS.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
So there were people down at the springs before sunrise?? Must have forgotten it's day-use only ...by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The quake was evident out here ... not sure if I already was awake or if it woke me, but I never felt it ... I just heard some wind chimes tinkling over our fireplace. They usually only make that sound when the heat from a fire moves them.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Has DCV considered "publicity containment"? It makes good sense not to "advertise" for more visitors while at the same time managing the flow of information to the current visitors. There are plenty of information sources out there already to lead people to the springs ... does DCV really want to be a part of that "advertisement"?by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I've always wondered how some of the colorful nicknames chosen for hotspringers originated. This is definitely a funny one. Sometimes they just do something to earn their name ... for instance one guy is known by "Subtle Dave".by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Wiz, Happy New Year and great pictures! At first when I looked at your "D" picture I thought your munchkins were mulitplying! Then I read the caption and realized the munchkin was a loner! LOL I love those fall foilage shots ~ the one of the Boy Scout bridge is outstanding! Thanks for sharing with us ~ no matter what some people say, you are one of the best people I know. Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Craig, We miss the springs too - don't get there as often as we'd like lately. Hopefully we can make a trip the next time you can and catch up. Hope you had a great Christmas and have a safe and prosperous New Year as well. cheers!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When people see this forum before going to the springs it gives them a very negative impression of the place. The only harm that AZ Mike is doing is to the image of Deep Creek Hot Springs. It is your choice to remove him or not but nearly the same effect can be accomplished if everyone would just not respond to his "ranting" posts. Not all the posts he makes are negative.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
stephen, please see the previous posts ... bowen ranch is always open and available but the springs' area is day-use only ... therefore, it is closed at midnight.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
tobin, camping is allowed at Bowen ranch, with payment of the $5 per person overnight fee and it's about a 30 - 45 minute hike from your campsite downhill to the springs (day use only).by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Here is some basic hot springs etiquette: 1. Respect others' privacy. Please refrain form shouting. 2. Do not bring glass containers, even though you can take the greatest of care, accidents do happen or someone else could accidentally bump into you. No one wants their children to cut themselves on glass you brought in. 3. Pack it in, pack it out. There is no official trash collection at Dby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hello chienchi, I can answer some of your questions and even provide you with some basic etiquette for hot springs. I will start with your questions ... 1. "will the springs be open on new year's eve?" Technically, Deep Creek Hot Springs is a day-use only area. I would expect the US Forest Service rangers to be on patrol that evening and ask people to leave at sunset. Being thereby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

If anyone happens to be down at the springs when the creek is subsiding it would be great if you could grab a bucket and wash away any mud that the creek has deposited on the rocks. Last time the creek left mud like that Wizard and I washed the mud off them and it was a lot easier than when it dries and hardens. It also helps keep the pools cleaner too. I expect these rains will again raise thby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
This is an interesting new theory ... which ever is what's happening all I know is the lemon juice solution helps a lot. I have a question about the use of rubbing alcohol: is this to be applied directly after soaking (like the way I use the lemon juice solution) or does it help with the itching after the rash appears? Thanks!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I mentioned this before on the "NY times Article about Goldstrike" thread: Author: DCR (---.lsanca2.dsl-verizon.net) Date: 12-09-02 20:46 Oops ... I was hurrying to post this before the page refreshed and I loose everything I've typed! I meant my co-workers DON'T undertand my interests. Does anyone else have a problem with the page refreshing and wiping out what they've typed?by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Laughing Bear, I'm not sure what you were trying to say. Is there a typo in there? "how a person can react to a base and not have a reaction." I will try to answer what I think you might be trying to ask. I would think this depends on the sensitivity of one's own skin. Ever since the Willow Fire I have had these out breaks. I have never had so-called "sensitive skin". Aby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Let me assure you that staph does not go away overnight! Trust me, you are reacting to a base. I discovered the acid solution must be used immediately before dressing. By the time you get home is too late ... doesn't work at that point. Just wait it out ... you are not having an alergic reaction.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
