Thanks for the info. I'll take that as an "all systems go"! (I may check back tomorrow for a weather update, though; don't want to get caught in a flash flood or slip and slide - more than usual - on the trail up and down.)celtfire wrote: > > Rally cars are usually little economy car sized vehicles with > sorta smallish tires and they haul "ash" on Bowen Ranch Roadby miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Was thinking of coming up on Monday or Tuesday. Is Bowen Ranch road passable with an economy car (not 4wd)? And is the Springs out of danger of fire? Any other reason why these would not be good days to come up? Thanks for your answers, in advance!by miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Is the road to and from Bowen's Ranch good enough for a small compact car to take this week (assuming no major storm after I've written this, Mon. night)?by miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Haven' t been up for a long time. How is the road to Bowen ranch and the trail down? How are the springs? Thanks in advance for any reports.by miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Hi, I like to check the weather before coming up that way, it's a long drive and I don't want to get caught in a flash flood, either. I usually type in Apple Valley in the yahoo weather service. Is there a better source or better city/ zip code to use? Plan to come in through Bowen Ranch. What do you think the road conditions will be this week?by miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi nakedhiker, Did you come in from Bowen Ranch? I was thinking of maybe coming this coming Wed the 2nd and I was wondering how that road is now and the path down from there?by miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks for the update, Wizard. When we get a chance to go, soon I hope, I will check back for a road update. Glad to hear the rash problems are gone at least for now.by miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I looked through some old posts but really don't have time to read back through all of them to find my answer. I'd appreciate if someone could give me a quick update: (I haven't been up there for about 2 years!) 1) Is Deep Creek still accessible from Bowen Ranch Road parking at Bowen Ranch? 2) Are there still issues with the water causing some skin problems? If the roads are currently closed orby miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That's good, Paul. I realize that of course some people - too many people - do not act responsibly. I guess that's why we have so many laws. (Although I note that in Central America they have less laws and it doesn't seem to be that much worse... in fact in many ways it's better, but that's another thread for another board...) As I said, I expected to get flamed, so thanks for not letting me down. (-; But let me clarify: I do not propose banning anyone, and the purpose of my post was to prevent the springs being closed due to health problems, which, according to the post that I read that started this, could be coming from dog doo, or baby poo getting into the pools. So, then maybe people should not be allowed to bring dogs to the hot springs. Many places do not allow dogs, including many parks and beaches. Hi, I know you dog owners are going to hate me for this, but I think I have a valid point here that deserves discussion. I am not a regular here, nor to Deep Creek - I go once or twice a year on average. But maybe that gives me some objectivity that you who go there regularly do not have. I just read the Willa Zoe post re protozoa at DC and I also read all the rest of the thread re skin rash, inby miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
How about a sign saying "Please do not walk on roots or camp here; this tree is in danger"? Or is that not allowed, either?by miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I am planning to come up Monday via Bowen Ranch; I drive a small Hyundai Accent which is also front wheel drive, so I guess it's an all clear unless it rains, eh? So there is no "bridge" (as in downed trees, etc.) to get over to the Hot Springs? One has to wade across to get over there? (In the past we've always managed to walk across on rocks and/or logs.) I've never known the pools by name. Is there a link to an explantion of this, or can someone give me an explanation? I gather the "womb" is the first big pool, the one you can sit in, then the "anniversary" pool is the one above that, the big one that you can't touch the bottom on in the middle? And the others? I had written the 3 Forest Officers listed here a couple weeks ago re why I felt the DC Hot Springs should be opened. Would someone please print here the person and address to write, to protest the closing of Deep Creek? I admit I don't feel like looking for it all over the web site, so could someone please copy it here? I am not a regular here, but I have been going to Deep Creek for many many years, sometimes once or twice a year, sometimes more, sometimes less. You folks here probably have the ability to go there more than I do and have more at stake and know more, but I'm going to give you my 2 cents worth, anyway, based on some stuff I've read here. 1) I don't see how it's Bowen Ranch's responsibility to pby miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was certainly under the impression that he was a Forest Service officer; if not why would he be answering the phone that is at the number given for the Big Bear Discovery Center (909-866-3437). This is the number that one is told to call (by the answering machine recording) when you call the Arrowhead Ranger Station and they cannot answer. I called on Sunday Nov. 23rd. I just called 1-909-866-3437 which is the number I was referred to by the Forest Service because the other local office is closed on Sunday. So anyway, the officer there informed me that Deep Creek would probably be closed for a very long time. When I asked how long, he said, probably at least a year, maybe more, as in the Willow fire situation. Thanks for the info and number! If one enters at Bowen Ranch, and when entering the actual National Forest along the trail, there is no sign saying it is closed, then they couldn't fine you for entering could they? I think when we went, the small typed sign at the Ranch said it was closed, but had no date on it, and didn't look like it was Official. So we entered. Hi, my wife and I live in L.A. and I've been up to DCHS about a dozen times over the years. Last fall we went up there and there was a sign posted at the Bowen Ranch saying the Springs was closed. After driving all that way, we weren't satisfied with that, and no one was at the house to ask, so we drove on down to the parking area. Found a couple people and they said they were just down there anby miguelbgood - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
