Today's report includes an incident near a small mine worked by a longtime local gold minor. Significant damage to a horse stepover and fence along the power line road in lower arrastre canyon was reported . A motorcycle rider took a sledgehammer to the horse stepover to create an open illegal route into the riparian area of Arrastre Canyon. A 20 foot section of fence was damaged as well. Once again, fresh motorcycle tracks go through the damaged section. This illustrates an example of what the residents of the Milpas Highlands neighborhood are experiencing. Vigilant residents there are reporting heavy damage from illegal OHV use as well. In the last month, we have documented serious damage to fences from Round Up Way up into the SBNF. According to statements made by BLM Ranger Barry Nelson, there is no problem with OHV activity in Juniper Flats. Local residents have a different perspective. Why does the BLM ignore our requests for enforcement?
