The same one that you call when YOU need help. The same one who gives you a ticket when you speed. The same one that's always been here. The same one that your taxes (you DO pay taxes, don't you?) pay for.

The very same law enforcement agency that realizes that Mike is alone out there and there are a lot of 'crazies' who've been makin' a lot of thinly-vailed threats and some overt ones regarding taking his property from him.

Then, of course, perhaps more likely, is that there are 'nuts' out there who like to break into cars. Imagine yourself confronting a group of vandals on a back road. A gun in hand would be a fine deterrant. Hey! Maybe vandals would think twice about break-ins if they knew that Mike was on 'patrol'.

One more small point: If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear from Mike.

I can't believe the absurdity of the questions here sometimes.

DCR -- Your point is point-less. You said: "I thought it was his kind-heart that prompted him to help travelers in distress."

I'd like to see how kind-hearted YOU'D be if you had to get up in the middle of the night to rescue people on a regular basis. Or maybe you thoujght that I'd change my tune about his kind-heartedness because you point out that he's human and gets tired of pulling the entire load by himself. Go figure.
