I visited that place back in 1973. Back then it was more like a hippy commune kind of vibe. The woman I was with prevented me from getting a really good reading by keeping me busy with her needs.

Still is a commune of sorts. I recall one time we went and a group of students stumbled upon it coming down from the trail that runs above the escarpment, 6 girls and 2 guys. They stood near the bulletin board at the top of the stairs for some time, then decided to come down. It was clear they felt a bit uncomfortable. However, one of the girls went up to water edge in front of us, looked around, literally said "what the hell" and dropped all her clothes, then ran into the water. Then everyone else did the same thing within a minute or two. That's what it's all about. Later we talked with them and said it was their first time at a place like that and didn't realize how "free" it is once you join the crowd, with nobody judging just going about their business. They were 2nd year students from a university in MA. Later on two of them helped an older guy put on sunscreen and they stayed, as did most that day, until sunset. I personally just like to float in a bottomless raft while listening to my audible books, hot sun, cold water :-)
