I've been thinking about our talk of meetings and the differant things suggesested that might help with the problems at DCHS. Anyway you go with this there is going to be some amount of people upset about the direction things are going. I have thoroughly enjoyed the free atmosphere of the springs up to this point. The visitation of DCHS is increasing and I don't think anyone would argue that point. Problems will increase also as the population at the springs increase because your going to get all types of people. Each one of these people will have thier own way of conducting themselves which may be seen by others as wrong behaviour for the springs. There are not going to be easy solutions to take care of all of the types of problems that can effect the springs environment that will make everybody happy. I would rather not pay a fee to access our public lands, I like having a bit of wine down there when I go and I wouldn't like to be the one to dictate who should be allowed to go there or not. The Forestry Dept. will be in the lead in deciding what to do with these issues. If a cohesive group of DCHS visitors is ever formed then I think the best they can hope for is to provide input to the Forestry Dept, from the visitors point of veiw, and maybe help in the decision process of deciding what policy should be made for the area. For now, individually, I've found that helping to keep the area clean by picking up trash is a solid way to help that nobody has a complaint about. Also in casual conversation down there I try to bring up ideas about what negative things have happened down there that have detracted from the area and that the more we take care of it then the more likely these springs will be here for us to enjoy long into the future.
