While Viejo Bill started this discussion I was down at the springs soaking, but I would like to share some thoughts on the subject. I agree that a meeting of minds would be a good idea, however expecting Mike, Katerina, BLM and Forest Service to all sit down a table together may require more magic than OZ and the Wizard can handle. No offense Wizard but one thing is getting pooches and munchkins to walk on water, and another quite different is to get feuding parties to sit and LISTEN to the other side.
As Wizard replies to Naked Man, we will probably have as many different opinions as the springs have visitors. However by the same token there are probably a series of issues that a great mayority would agree with. Things like keeping the springs open and accessable to all, keeping them clean, firearms or weapon are not welcome at the springs, etc. These are the ones that we need to focus on initially. We should concentrate on what we have in common and put our differences aside. However, before including people that you all now will have opposing points of view on many issues, you might want to start with a smaller group that have a better chance of coming up with common goals and objectives.
If you suceed at this stage, the next step would be to try and see if you can get the other parties to agree to these initial goals. These goals would need to be clear and shared by the great majority, but practical as well. You could then contact some fellow springers that are partial one way or another to try and get the Katerinas and Mike Castros to be a little more open to diaologue. This whole process would not be a simple task, but there is no doubt that a group of opened minded concerned citizens is a good place to start, if you are ever going to achieve a meeting of the minds. It would need to be this group of concerned hotspringers that keeps everyone focused on the common goals and not their differences. I wish the best of luck to all members of such a group!!!
