Well Murry, didn't sound like you got too far in the wrong direction. Those falls get loud when the rains are heavy. With those hiking times you mentioned, you are clearly fit and went at a good pace in and out. The moto riders you saw were most assuredly riders illegally tresspasing in USFS lands ( not even close to any designated moto trail or roads ). They have been frequenting that area of the canyon regularly, many times parking their bikes about a quarter mile upstream from DCHS, and at times walking down to the springs. The more reports to the USFS the better for these rogue elements of the OHV community. Regarding the fly fisherman, there have been no trout in the lower reaches ( DCHS area for example ) for some years now. In the past bigger floods have washed them down the creek, but then when summer comes along the stream temp gets too high for a trouts tolerance and they die. They live year round further upstream. Good to hear your hike to DCHS went well by way of the Bradford Ridge trail ( minus you bit of lost time at the beginning ) :-)
