Dan writes, "So, when the tweeker kid from Hesperia rides his cousin's bike up through JF on illegal trails, stops to kick over some "Open" and "Closed" trail markers, then some other group of three 17-year-olds comes along and rides the closed trail because they don't see the marker, it's the three that have their vehicles confiscated? How is that justice?"
_____________
Closed trail markers are not used in this region, Dan. In this Limited Use region, riding is restricted to trails designated as "Open".
The BLM signing effort is being frustrated by those within the OHV community. The Limited Use advisory signs are being vandalized and flawed maps are being circulated by a prominent OHV organization representing that this region is not Limited Use.
By the way, Dan, if you read these posts more carefully, no one is saying that someone should lose their bikes on a first offense unless they are trying to evade law enforcement.
As for evading enforcement, yesterday a neighbor told me that she had observed Sheriff's units in a private property region of Bowen Ranch Rd. Approximately five bikes were on the ground and apparently all but one rider had fled. Owners have been unable to maintain postings on that heavily damaged property, and when challenged the trespasser's reponse usually given is "I have been riding here for years." Yesterday, five riders were feeling a change in the wind.
