Jobe, I do not engage in flame wars so this is my last post on this subject. Comparing Scott to Jesus is a far stretch. Watch out for lightning strikes on clear days. If Scott has reformed then I expect that he will now respect the regulations on camping, littering, operating an illegal business on USFS land (and the list goes on and on.). I don't hate anyone, but I do not appreciate thoseby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Scott, the "Merchant of Deep Creek," was, in my opinion, a two bit hood abusing the privilege of being able to visit the sacred place. He broke many, if not all, of the rules set up to protect the fragile natural and social environment of Deep Creek Hot Springs. If we accept the label as "free spirit" for Scott, then I guess all con men qualify as such. As for the allegaby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I plan to drive to Deep Creek via the Bowen Ranch on Saturday, 5-28 and invite anyone to carpool with me and share the fuel costs I drive a Dodge Grand Caravan and have lots of room. I live in Orange County, but can meet anywhere along the 55, 91, 57, 10 or 15 Freeways. It's all about spending as much time as possible at Southern California's most beautiful water attraction so I leave early aby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The last time I dipped in Sheppard's Pool was on a hot springs bagging weekend with the Sierra Club Singles led by Dave Bybee, one of the writers (along with Jayson Loam and Marjorie Gersh-Young) of the Hot Springs of the Southwest (also Northwest) books. At that time (1991) there was no lake in the background. What a summer to be a hot springer!by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Dear Wizard, Thanks for the account of your adventure yesterday and for the 11 photos you shared with us. I hope to see you (and lots of other birthday suiters) there this Saturday, the 28th. Celtfireby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Many of us who love and protect the Deep Creek environment try to pick up trash at the springs and on the trails leading in and out. An extension pick up tool is most helpful at getting those cigarette butts, beer cans and other small pesky items that are indicative of the presence of "humanus doofus," the common litter bug. Normally, those tools cost from $15 to $25 in hardware stby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I dumbly posted this message tagged onto another thread. Sorry. I try again........ I'd like to carpool with anyone from OC or along the 57 at the 60 or 10 freeways on Saturday. I'll drive. Post here if interested.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Due to the high cost of fuel I cannot afford to drive my minivan alone to Deep Creek this on Saturday. I live in Irvine and can meet anyone along the 55, 57 or for interested folks in LA, at junctions on the 60 or 10 past the 57. Post an answer here if you are interested. Cheers!by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Back in the days when the Bowen Ranch was under the gentle command of Mrs. Bowen, computers were the size of walk-in freezers and the only phone that was portable was one with a VERY LONG cord..... (I digress). In those days just about everyone went nude at the springs and the occasional prude hiker didn't dare confront the skinny dippin' crowds. It seemed logical that the clothing optional lifby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I'm looking for one or more folks who might want to carpool to Deep Creek on Saturday the 25th. I'm in central OC, but can link up with LA trekkers at the I-57 and I-10 or wherever else works. Post a reply if you're interested. Celtfireby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Sorry for the trouble getting to the photos. The originals were sized at almost 3 MB each so the USFS or DCV could use them for publication with no loss of quality. I resized a representative number of the originals and uploaded them on the Sony Imagestation site. I sent CDs including all the originals to Ron Mercer, our DCV fearless leader, and Denise Branda of the Forest Service. I didn't rby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

If the ruling administration steamrolls over environmental sensitive plans with pro-development and pro-OHV mania the only way to save our land is to kick the a$$holes out and put in an Earth-sensitive government.
