All of those clothes he had to wear on Saturday made Mr. Mike a bit confused about which day it was, and not wearing clothes in Paradise must have affected me and my internal calendar. Of course Saturday was the 5th of June. Have a good week and when you see her, give my love to the Elfin queen spirit of the Springs. I spent most of Saturday, June 6th, at the springs and upstream and I must say it was a particularly wonderful day with few people (no tour bus!!!), wonderful weather and perfect water temperature for swimming. Being early risers and travelers, my brother Danny and long-time DCHS aficionado, Sonja, arrived at the springs before 10:00 AM, After a few dips in the hot pools we hiked upstream to oby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Back in the 70's people would ride trail bikes right up to the springs. I saw several attempts by motorcyclists to get to the creek by riding the goat trail from Bowen Ranch. A fired up vigilance by the BLM and Forest Service stopped it from happening. I hate to see that kind of disrespect taking place again. Wiz, a digital photo of the bikes with license plates visible would be a great presby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wow, the mention of Lonny brought back some memories. He had a bad habit of spying on me and my hiking companion, a woman, when we would go upstream from the springs just to escape the crowds. I believe he thought we might be having sex and he wanted to watch (we weren't). I warned him to get lost several times but then would get a feeling that we were being spied on again and there would be Lby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When I last visited the hot springs several weeks ago an on-site "merchant," apparently living in a tent, was selling sodas, water, first aid, etc. He had a sign advertising himself as an "EMT," a serious deception if, in fact, he is not certified as such. I found the young man very ignorant regarding the ecology and history of the area and, I must say, I dread the intrusionby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The LA Times Outdoor section today featured an article about the decay of the U.S. Park Service due to budget cuts and a devaluing of the roles the rangers play. I believe the the woes of the Park Service are also those of the Forest Service. http://www.latimes.com/features/outdoors/la-os-newfamily6apr06,1,5439956,print.story?coll=la-headlines-outdoors The following was also in the Outdoor sby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Laughing Bear, which newspaper were the reporter and photographer from? The LA Times will get more coverage, but it seems the local papers get the stories straighter. We need a little justice around here!by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I remember this program or one like it from sometime ago. When I tried to follow the URL I was informed that I needed to install Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. I tried to do that and ended up in the middle of a turf war between Microsoft and Sun Microsystems. Everything I tried either didn't work or was not allowed by the fighting giants. From the LA Times website this afternoon: In San Bernardino, blazes were "engulfing the Lake Arrowhead area" by 3 p.m., said Carol Beckely of the U.S. Forest Service. Homes were also ablaze this afternoon in Cedarpines Park, west of Lake Arrowhead, and were approaching Hesperia to the north. There were no official estimates, but fire authorities said the damage in Cedarpines Park waby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Gary, Regarding "Blue Highways" by William Least Heat Moon, if you can't recover the copy you left for the squirrels (they bagged my shiny digital watch some years ago) the hardback book is available used for $4.00 at Half.com and new at Amazon for about $5.30, both plus shipping of course. I admit my error. It would take a very large image sensor to rival the resolution of 4X5 film. Musta been that loco weed salad..... ;-) I do predict that film will eventually go away, not just from dwindling sales as digital cameras take more of the market, but because the electronic image sensors will surpass the chemical medium.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I own about 10 good film cameras of all types and formats and I love using them, but I dare say that the Kodak 14 megapixel+ digital camera will give 4x5 a damn good fight. My money's on the Kodak. In the long run film will not beat digital. It's chemistry against math and electronics. No contestby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I cannot believe what I have been reading on this forum. Are the lunatics running the asylum? Shame on you, L.Bear and S.Laughing, for using insinuations and half truths to malign Wizard and his family. Mrs. Wiz is the living model of a watchful, diligent Mom.
