Jon B., The Bradford Ridge trail from the 173 would have you approaching the springs from the west. As for the road conditions, it is earth and you will need to go slow but you do not require a 4WD or extra high cleareance like on some of the JF roads around the Bowen Ranch from the east. I am not sure if by easier you are refering to the hike or the road conditions, but hopefully between thisby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, thanks for the catch, I was tired last night and did not realize that BR could be interpreted as Bowen Ranch or Bradford Ridge. You are correct I meant Bowen Ranch trail is easier although I enjoy the Bradford Ridge as well.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jon B., I am not sure what sort of hike you are looking for but I thought you should know that while the Braford Ridge trail is shorter than the Dam trail, it is has a much greater change of elevation. It is a little longer and steeper with a greater elevation trail than the Bowen Ranch trail, so if you are looking for an easier hike you might want to stay with the BR.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The USFS has asked DCV to put a warning on our brochure and we have done so. However they agree that there have been no fatal cases since 1979. I find it interesting that the secand articles hints that the reason that there have been no more recent cases could be a result of the change in the polio vacination. However, it would probably good advice not to go sniffing in the water intentionallyby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Stu, Welcome to the Forum and thanks for your input on the brochure. I will discuss you suggestion with the other members of our group at one of our next meetings that are scheduled for February 22nd and March 29 at 1:00 p.m. If you feel like joining send us a email (there is a link below) or mail me the contact section of the brochure to the P.O. Box. Thanks and take care.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, I guess you know me. I was down at the springs yesterday. Katerina's report on the water level is accurate. Put another way the level yesterday was about a foot and a half over the Arizona pool, but the creek appeared to have crested at about 3 feet over it's normal level. It just got to the base of the sign that is closest to the Arizona pool. At this level it would have covered boby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, You are wrong! The moon is not green, it's white, and as far as I could see with Gary Roe yesterday evening it did not appear to be made of cheese. It was bright, round and full. I believe that so the people that have been there say it is made of dirt, but I have not been there, have not seen ir or touched it, so I can't witness either way. Sorry, to joke on such a serious subject, bby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I am pleased to announce that today I received a phone call and email from Ranger Brad Burns confirming that Deep Creek Volunteer's brouchure has been approved by the USFS. We may now start using it as a tool to educate fellow visitors at the springs. For those interested in attending our next meeting will be on Saturday, February 22nd. at 1:00 p.m. at the springs. Our meetings are open to theby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I beleive that another reason that the USFS does not want people down at the creek at night is due to the endangered toad. I think that they are supposed to come out at night. Like it or not that is the regulation.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It appears that the mountains north of LA got the heavy stuff this time around (over 5 inches). Some of the creeks around Mt. Wilson had some good flash floods. Hopefully, next storm will dump more water on the San Bernardino Mountains.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I received confirmation today that a local Representative from The Naturist Society will be a guest speaker at our next Deep Creek Volunteers meeting. This meeting will be held on Saturday February 22nd., at the Hot Springs, close to the Arizona Pool. Hope to see there as many DCV members as possible. Please remember that are meetings are open to the public so everyone is welcome.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
On one of the latest forecast I saw this storm should be over by Friday and Saturday looked good, but there was a smaller storm predicted for Sunday it Monday. I still think we can use all the rain we can get. It would be nice if the creek gets a good washing. Does anyone know if the Mohave River started flowing?by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It is probably for cases like these that the USFS has requested we put their official wording on on Deep Creek Volunteer's brochure. Their wording states that "Violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both." I guess these stronger fines are reservedby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The springs are on USFS land so they are free. There are several pools at different temperatures that range from about 90 to 109 degrees depending how close to the source they are. From Green valley Lake you could come in on the 173 if you don't mind dirt roads. The Bradford ridge trail starts at the little white wooden bridge that is five miles before the pavement. Mike D. You sent DCV an email and became a member of our group on 10/5/02. However, since then we have not heard from you and the email address you gave us is no longer valid. I also sent you correspondence at the begining of January through snail mail and have not heard back. At our latest meeting it was decided that after three months of having lost all contact with a member we will drop thby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Could be. Some of the undergrowth along Deep Creek is ferocious, poking, pinching, scratching, etc. Although I have seen none bite a human yet, those muchkins out there should be aware.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Scott welcome to the Forum and thanks for your reply and email. In his email Scott also says "I don't think Matt would be real concerned about it at this time. ... I think it was LaughingBear who posted that he thought it should be 14, I think I would probably agree with that, because most kids would be in 8th or 9th grade at that age, and are capable of critical thinking. If others are uby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Laughing Bear, Although we can decide what we want as a group, we also want to be taken serioulsly. I don't think it would be a good idea to set an age and then start making exceptions for certain minors that we like as this would be very subjective. It could easily end up hurting a minors feelings and could also be viewed as a way to influce the vote on a particular issue. I think we need toby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I like this idea of trying the proposed location for the next meeting. So far I have received only one person saying that they prefer the grassy area and being closer to the people out of a total of six replies so far. (Yes:3; No:1; indifferent: 2) Hopefully, this one meeting test will work for all.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
AZ Mike has rejoined DCV and sent us the following email regarding the location of our meetings: "Howdy, I am proposing a new location at the hot springs for the next DCV meeting. The location near the Anniversary Pool doesn't work well, .... at least not for me anyway. It's too hilly there and there's too much commotion in close proximity. If the meeting were yesterday, it would have tby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, Great post. I agree with everything you have said here except for the Neon 45 by 80 foot sign that I know you are kidding about and brining back a little humor to the forum. OK I added the neon part, you did not say it. I also would like to endorse Sycamore's proposal of 14 as the minimum age requirement!by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Paul P. raises some great idead or topics for discussion. Laughing Bear while I agree with you that the information on a the brocure is sufficient, the advantage of a sign would be that it would be present even if one of our members was not. Funding would be an issue, and if you look for cojoint funding with USFS it will be a drawn out process. We should try and find a low cost alternative, thby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Sycamore for your very detailed posts. I will try to fill a few more details and answer some of your questions. We did discuss the modification process. I was propossing presenting accumulating changes and presenting them once every six month. Other felt we should do so more often, however most agreed that every month is too often. So I would say the concensus would be somewhere arounby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I wonder if the required log in system is contributing to the quietness on the Forum. I would think that the occassional visitors are less likely to post with the required log in. Thanks Sycamore I though the meeting was very productive. I have also been very busy but look forward to your minutes when you have a chance to get to them.by Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
We had the meeting at the springs today. The Lord blessed us with a beautiful, blue sky, nice warm temperatures and Mother Earth provide her reliable source of hot water for our soaks. Sycamore Laughing, Paul, Wizard, AZ Mike and I were in attendance. The meeting was very cordial and productive and Sycamore took notes of all the issues discussed that she will post as soon as she has time. Itby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I have sent Ranger Brad and email notifying him of the recent cases of vandalism at the springs. I am not sure how much they can do. I have noticed that the brown gate over at the lower parking lot is not locked in any way and on several instances there are motorcycle tracks through there. One day a couple of months ago I even saw a fellow try and ride a ATV down the trail to the springs and oby Ron - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
