Thank you for whomever dragged the two large trees that impacted the trail on the flooding of XMAS day. I had every intentions to remove them today but someone beat me to it. I usally hike solo and do not consider myself a mule - even though others might argue, someone took some responsiblity. THIS IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF PREEMPTIVE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY THAT IS DISPLAYED OFTEN WITH THE DC FOLKby Hammock-key - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Sorry we are meeting at 7:30 rather than 8:00 - meeting at the 173 and the PCT about 6 miles south of the Springs. Dby Hammock-key - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I got this info directly from the PCT southern CA trail maintenace gura (Pete Fish). I believe we will begin to gather/ organize is 8:00 AM. I do have further contact info and such but thought inappropriate to post that information on a public board. I do plan on joining them on some of these days. If you want more info you can Email me directly DHSTEIN31&by Hammock-key - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I always come in from Lake Arrowhead. The easiest is on the Bradford Ridge Trail - Half way down/up (park at the stop sign at the bridge). It is less than three miles with elevation gain coming back of about 1000 ft - a lot more strenuous than from the ranch. The other way is to come down the PCT. Start at Splinters Cabin in Cedar Glen (which probably is still closed due to the fire) this isby Hammock-key - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
JUST GOT THIS EMAIL TOO I just received this message myself and wanted you to know that the Hot Springs have finally been opened for the public to use again. I apologize that this took so long and I appreciate all of your patience. The Forest Order and map are a little difficult to read but the paragraph below pretty much explains everything. Thanks for recreating on the San Bernardino Natioby Hammock-key - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Well from what I have read, at least in Devore they sent letters our about the potential danger , but no evacuation. As for Waterman, it actually happened way to quick. And it technally was not a mud slide but a flash flood --- the difference is that the debris made a dam and the dam created a lake and when the dam broke then ---- a 15 foot high flood of stuff came pouring down. Rick --- I do agree ten fold --- When they closed the forest in 2002 for three months there was at least signs at most of the trail heads and there were citations being issued. The articles in both of the SB newspaper about the teenagers death claim, that the closure is clear on their website and PR publications. The closure is hidden in the "News" section of their website and then amby Hammock-key - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
With two deaths in the SB mountains in the last weeks with one being in the closed burned area above Devore, IMO it will be doubtful that they will open up all of the unburned areas. The powers who are will be focusing more on why there have been twice the number of deaths in fifteen days than there was all last year and triple the number of calls for search and rescue. Here is an E-mail I just recieved from Allison Stewart. BTW dozens of people today were at the springs not knowing about the closure. And good news the springs are almost back to normal after recovering from the X-mas Floods that still have debris 6 ft high on some of the trees. Yes Very Sad..... I personally know the camp directory at St Sofia who is still missing. Was hiking on PCT today from Rt 15 to the Spillway of Deep Creek. A lot of trail maintenance will need to be done (if not complete rerouting) plus my guess that DC is full of Debris. Dby Hammock-key - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
From personal experience, I have hiked some of the "burned out" areas, Squints Ranch, PCT South of Splinters Cabin, Cedar Glen, & Cajon Mnt. as well as the "restricted areas" of The Pinnacles, Bradford Ridge Trail, and Millers Canyon in Silverwood. This is only slightly less illegal than the general public because one of my hiking buddies is a volunteer for the forest serby Hammock-key - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
