I once lost my car keys while at Deep Creek Hot Springs over twenty years ago. I hiked down to the creek with a friend, explored a bit, soaked in the pools and, before the hike out, climbed a tree to get some Mistletoe, as the time was near Christmas. We hiked back to Bowen Ranch and, oops, no keys! In those days I was running about 60 miles a week, much of it on hills, so I left my friend with tby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I went into that cave some years ago hoping to take a nap out of the sun and found a Pacific Diamondback Rattlesnake doing just what I wanted to do..snooze. I figured "finders keepers" and left the cave to the "finder."by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
An enjoyable read, Nathan. Thanks.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ann, One of the initial joys of discovering Deep Creek for me was the combination of mountain stream and volcanic hot springs just feet apart, a confluence divine. Most times, the visitor gets there, discovers the springs, the deep pools in the creek, the beaches, grassy perches in the shade and why, oh why, would anyone go elsewhere, that visitor might ask..... and I say, because there's so muchby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
In the early 70's I saw the same thing happen. We just laughed and he and the scouts went their way down the trail. QuoteRick I saw a boy scout leader try to get people to cover up. But he didn't yell. (He didn't get his way either!)by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Well, Joe, if you're walking through dangerous territory and you'd rather carry an illegal weapon than chance death from a bad guy's hollow point, then as the saying goes, you'd "rather be judged by twelve than carried by six."by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe, We award you the "Nookie Protector Merit Badge." You'll have to get it tattooed to your chest 'cause you mostly don't wear a scout uniform (or anything else). When the bevy of beauties passed us there were, as I wrote, about 12-15. Maybe they broke apart, some going to the pools and the others...? Joe, my two lady friends and I were walking out to our car when we met those young women on their way down the goat trail. I think that there were at least 12-15 of them and they looked about college age. I'm glad to read that they all wore their birthday suits in the pools. I think there must be a God, and she is naked! Lately, I've been a grump on this forum complaining about the types of people abusing the DCHS environment over the past several years. A few days ago I wrote a more light hearted message telling of an encounter last Saturday with a Hesperia church group, complete with little kids, teens and adults. We were naked and.... well, you can read the rest in my missive, fourth subject under this headingby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I also happened to be at the springs on Saturday, May 23rd. Two friends and I hiked from from Bowen's Ranch and arrived around 10:40 AM. There were a lot of people there, mostly clothed teens and twenty-somethings. A lot of the kids had been camping overnight and many were drinking and already getting rowdy. As far as I could see all of them were textile (clothed). My companions were two womeby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

And then what happens? Most likely, nothing. The USFS is practically selling pencils on the street. The Illegal campers, bikers and taggers know that there's little chance that the rangers are going to do anything. Oh, for goodness sake, Joe, you're talking to educated people here. I have a schooled layman's knowledge of how the science of earthquake measurement works. I was all over the Northridge Quake site (actually the Reseda centered quake which covered all of the San Fernando Valley and beyond), producing documentary footage, interviewing the scientists at Cal Tech, shooting footage of the earthquakeby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Joe, the 1994 Northridge (Reseda) earthquake was measured at 6.7 on the Richter Scale, not 9, which would have been greater in amplitude than the 1964 Alaskan quake which measured 8.7.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wow, what a response to my Facebook group, "Deep Creek Hot Springs." ..... Zero posts followed my initial announcement. The reason I started the group was to reach out to the next generation of hot springers who can learn to protect the Deep Creek Hot Springs environment, ignore it or join the growing numbers of users who have been abusing it. We can't protect the creek and springs bby celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I just started an open group on Facebook, "Deep Creek Hot Springs," to encourage positive messages about our favorite high desert retreat and broaden support for responsible use of its precious resources. I've just posted one photo of the spring high creek. Please join the group and contribute to the site as you see fit. Photos are needed and your creativity is certainly encouraged.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I first visited Deep Creek Hot Springs over the Memorial Day Weekend, 1970, 39 years ago. I'll be back up on Saturday, 5/23 with a friend whose been a devotee for 17 years and two college-age women on their first trip. I do hope people are mellow (a 70's adjective, fer shure) and textile-less. I expect I'll see some of you then. Cheers.by celtfire - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
To clarify my last post, I would not destroy anyone's vehicle, but without damage it could be made immobile for a while. We cannot hold hands and chant, "Kumbaya" and expect our sacred creek and hot springs be protected. I heard from a trusted friend that one of the DCHS regulars recently hiked down to the springs after passing through the Bowen Ranch. He saw a truck parked at the Forest Service lot near the head of the goat trail and saw that a group of rowdy young men had just left the truck and started down the trail toward the creek and hot springs.
