Re: Two Trip Reports

I once lost my car keys while at Deep Creek Hot Springs over twenty years ago. I hiked down to the creek with a friend, explored a bit, soaked in the pools and, before the hike out, climbed a tree to get some Mistletoe, as the time was near Christmas. We hiked back to Bowen Ranch and, oops, no keys! In those days I was running about 60 miles a week, much of it on hills, so I left my friend with the car and ran back down to the creek. I guessed that the most likely place I'd lost the keys was when I'd climbed the tree and after a search among the rocks near the trunk, I found the keys. I crossed the creek again on the upstream rocks and ran back up the trail, which also included dodging a small herd of cattle on the goat trail. The down and back trip took under an hour. Thank goodness I'd found the keys as I was about 90 miles from my home in Orange County. I think that experience was what caused my hair to really start turning grey. Now I make sure that I carry an extra car key in my pack.

....got back to my car at Kinely Creek Bridge just after 9pm, and I couldn't find my car keys! Although this is stating the obvious, this is not a good location to do that. I had to walk back up 173 for about 45 minutes before I got a cell phone signal. Had to get my wife to bring the spare key to get into the car. Found the keys in the trunk, lying right on top of my work back pack. This is going to be one of those experiences that I will never live down. . . . "Do you remember the time when. . . . laugh, laugh, laugh!"
