i'm not endorsing the music/singer, and in a way this is a Levis commercial, but it was filmed in our favorite place so thought I would share it. Returning soon, maybe tomorrow, can't wait. http://vimeo.com/41069032by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
yeah yeah hiker! thanks for your sacrifice....I know, lame on my part. But it is a long trip for me. Every other day on my radar sees warm temps and good weather. Tomorrow, Friday, I've been seeing forecasts of 60s and dangerous winds. It will probably be a great day but I think I will just come next Friday instead. I can't wait to get back to the springs. It's been way too long for me. Let me knby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
hi hiker. i was really hoping to make my first trip back to DCHS of the season--i haven't been able to come in a while--on Friday. But the weather is scaring me off, wind advisory and low temps and such. Should it, I wonder?by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

you are talking about camper dave (the tan guy). he is a helpful guy, I always had good conversations with him. he often has friends, girlfriends, meet him at the creek, he's trying to live a bit like the idea of "Into the Wild." I think he even uses the nickname of that guy. maybe others will think differently of him as he has basically been living in the area on and off for two years?by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

LOL squared. I don't think we have a rat problem! Just one rat, seen by Jobe. Read his post from earlier today. I do think Sam D.'s warning about rattlesnakes is a good and serious one though. Over my years of going to the springs, they are a constant presence and I've had close encounters, too close...by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
LOL. Sam D. with the line LC added to his guide about "aqueous fecal levels" from people not rinsing off, I don't think the crowds will be rushing down to DCHS anytime soon! I know it's serious but it read as a bit funny. And if they read Jobe's post about a rat in the Womb, forget about it. We will have the place all to ourselves soon enough! Paul will undoubtedly know. But from the upstream beach pool to the top down to the bottom it goes: Arizona Pool - Anniversary -- The Womb -- Serenity -- Crabcooker. The last more a trough than a pool. Some history here: http://deepcreekhotsprings.net/dchs/forum/read.php?1,19828,19828#msg-19828by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
You even seem to have managed to capture a picture of Jobe from this board crossing the creek.....by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hello LC, I like your new intro, thanks for doing that edit. I think it is true now to the spirit and needs of the place (cleaning up after yourselves etc.) I discovered Deep Creek first because it was listed in clothing-optional guides, places for skinny dipping. Then when I moved to SoCal, I noticed it was in the Time Out Guidebook to LA. But there, in the guidebook, it was great in the sense tby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Those are both impressive. I think there might be some ambivalence about another online guide to the springs, as things are over-crowded there in recent years. I would say it would be great -- in my own opinion, and i think many others who use this forum and care for the springs -- if you could emphasize more that it is a traditional clothing-optional area. The problem recently has been people noby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ha! In 2047, I will have been visiting the creek for 42 years (I'm not yet 42, so maybe it will happen god bless). Then I will write you a really long post, I'm just getting started. Great reports! And great to hear about the sign (and see it!). Thanks to Jobe, Wizard, and Hiker for fixing things up. Now if only we could find the big NUDE BEACH sign that must be buried beneath all that sand.....by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
96 degrees in the Womb seems cold! 50 degrees definitely is cold. I always hope for that "last" day of summer. But looking forward to some winter days at DCHS this year.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Paul for those further recs. And thanks MD--I'll go check out soakersforum! Everyone I spoke to at Breitenbush said the place is pretty much full every weekend now. I'm sure during the week they usually have room. But I did get in with persistence, and they offered me Saturday night too, though I couldn't stay two nights. A special place, for sure.by neogeo - U.S.A. Hot Springs
I post this long essay-length report because I had fun writing it and remembering it all, but also because it has the kind of detail on some well-known Oregon springs that might be hard to find. I surely would have liked to read something this detailed before I planned me trip, to get a sense for what I might like or not from the below. Here goes: I was lucky enough recently to have to travelby neogeo - U.S.A. Hot Springs
they were not gnats, nor the big horse flies you sometimes do get at Deep Creek. There were small, yes, more like fruit flies. I'm not an expert though!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
glad you had a great day Johnny (and thanks for that map link you sent me a bit ago). i concur on the flies, they were all over everyone and i think drove off one nice couple i was talking to during the afternoon. i got used to them. 1:30 am rescue? crazy...like i said, when i left friday around 4-ish, most had already hiked out. The place was almost empty, and looked like it would be soon. Justby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Made it out to the springs yesterday. I wanted to post before the Saturday free hike announced on the board for today, but was too tired from the day last night to sit down and write. It was a beautiful day. Given the dwindling sunlight and shorter days, I got out there as early as I could. I arrived in the high desert and to the Bowen Ranch around 8 am, or just after. As I drove up into the highby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Hi Hiker and Paul, I've never been to Vickers. It looks great - online sources seem to keep the directions a secret. If you feel inclined, maybe you could message me with them? I'd like to check them out this fall/winter. I'm about to take off to Oregon for some time in November and looking forward to hitting a bunch of places.by neogeo - California Hot Springs
Bowen Ranch is private property. It is not a BLM camp site, it is not BLM developed land, and it is not an ORV open area. The anti-nudity clarification recently by the BLM was put in place to crack down on biker girls taking off their tops at ORV areas, as I read the news on this, specifically in the Salton Sea/Imperial Valley area. Too bad on the crackdown, but that is what the ordinance is abouby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Posting that it is illegal to hike nude when it is not, is different than people on this board insisting that the no camping rules at the hot springs be followed. Those rules are real and clear, and they help preserve the springs. I've seen lots and lots of folks obtain tickets for camping at the springs; also for what Jobe calls "medicine"; I've never seen nude hikers experience anby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm no expert on this, but see the link I posted above Wizard. Sometimes bureaucrats do not know that nudity is not illegal, as was the case with the apology from the Sheriff that Allen Bayliss obtained in the Angeles forest case in 2006. I found this older discussion on this board now almost 10 years old: http://deepcreekhotsprings.net/dchs/forum/read.php?1,3277,3277#msg-3277 But other souby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm sure the Freehiking Group know the law on nudity on public lands very well. It is not illegal to hike nude from Bowen Ranch to the springs. And a lot of people take advantage of that fact. Here is some interesting reading, starting on p. 4, on hiking in the Angeles national forest. http://www.naturistaction.org/NACletter_DEC_2006.pdfby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
