I'm not trying to necessarily be diplomatic, but Wiz and Rick, you both have some good points. Indeed, not everyone and their brother should be messing around with making major changes in the Deep Creek area. On the other hand, Wiz is essentially right - most of the Forest Service personnel that come to the springs are trained in enforcement and not environmental studies. They don't have a clue about what is ecologically appropriate for Deep Creek. Plus they are simply not as familiar with the area as the concerned regulars, like Wizard, Katrina, Bill, Jeff and others. I doubt any of us would attempt to induce unsuitable non-sustainable improvements to Deep Creek, but at least we have a pretty good idea what is appropriate.
There are obvious uncertainties about the future management of Deep Creek. Forest Service, BLM, and DCHS Inc all are under consideration. The key is to strike a balance to achieve effective environmental stewardship regardless of who is in charge.
