Luna Vista Ranch is nestled up against Luna Mountain. Having spent a winter there back in 1977-1978, I really experienced life on "the mountain". With no electricity, light was provided by kerosene lamps. For entertainment there was one local radio station that played two kinds of music....country AND western! When the winter storms came, 90 mph winds blew the metal roof off of my cabin. It snowed so much that year that we were snowed in for three weeks. Water was obtained by throwing a bucket down into the well. We burned every stick we could find to stay warm with those howling winds. Then we burned the clothes line. Next went the hitching post.....after we ate all of the chickens, we burned the chicken coop too! Ah yes.... it was an experience I will never forget.

Today we have solar panels to provide electricity. Our water comes from wells and provide as much pure mountain spring water as one wants to drink. We grow gardens that the critters love to eat. A zillion stars still paint the skies at night and there are no streetlights. Every night the coyotes seranade us with their songs. Still no traffic jams up there but Bowen Ranch road does see more and more traffic these days. Civilization is fast approaching and the rual quality of life will someday be a thing of the past.
But for now, we will enjoy what is left of "living on the mountain".
