Re: Laughing Bear and point #3:
What if we changed the wording of #3 a little. Instead of recommending that the USFS engineers propose an official design, simply ask them if they plan to do so, or what their plan is if not, and offer our help as appropriate and possible with whatever they plan to do?
Our intention here is to work with the USFS to alleviate what they see as a problem. Ranger Brad expects our letter and is prepared to respond, so I am hopeful that we can send it soon. I have no problem with alternative wording to achieve consensus on the matter.
Members at the last two meetings agreed that the trail will continue to be used despite any efforts to discourage its use by the USFS (or us), and that closure of the trail by the USFS would also not prevent its use.
Here's a suggestion for revising the wording of point #3:
As this trail will continue to see usage while it continues to be the easiest non-Bowen Ranch access for two wheel drive vehicles, our group would like to work with the USFS to alleviate problems. For example, if redesign of the trail would be beneficial, a group of our members would be willing to work on that according to the plans of the USFS engineers.
