I agree the Colorado River is a great alternative. You can visit several hot springs, including Goldstrike, Ringbolt, and Boy Scout.
Just don't camp right beside the river because the Hoover Dam folks have periodic releases of water so the river level can still flucuate a lot and rise a lot.
