Thanks for the info Paul and neogeo. Last visit there were probably 20 tents near the springs so I figured though "banned", camping there was accepted.
Camping at the springs is definitely not "accepted" nor legal. So that is excellent that you decided to camp at Bowen! Now if we can just educate folks by discussing all the negative impacts associated with camping by the springs, fire, sanitation, trash, wildlife impacts, potential to deny public access to the springs etc. let alone risk the fines.
