Just an IB update for you. Coronado Brewery is now open on Seacoast across Elm from the shell shop. I believe they were awarded best mid size brewery in the world over in Germany last year. That makes three new restaurant/bars on Seacoast including Barrels wine and beer and the Sea 180 at the new hotel along with the Tin Fish at the end of the pier. Apparently one more hotel is planned for Seacoast and IB Blvd. and that will be it. Rumor has it maybe a Trader Joe's at the new shopping area at 9th and Palm and In n Out says they'll be here in a couple of years. More good than bad in IB these days and still the only blue collar ocean front left in So Cal.
That fenced in area was actually radio antenna for listening out into the pacific years ago. The place is re-opening and to become a special war campus for navy. According to news reports everything from Coronado is moving to the IB base though they are going to use the gate at the strand so traffic won't be hampered. The part of Palm where the base gate is has been narrowed to one lane and one bicycle path to limit a lot of vehicle traffic so a main gate would not work there. Good for the local businesses though.
All this and a sea breeze plus only 25 minutes to Blacks Beach and 80 minutes to De Anza Springs.
