My roomates cat years ago took a bite and toughed it out, my terrier mix was always a natural on his own...i never worried when he wandered off...that little dog sensed ttrouble and would stand between me and a bear if given the chance..trust your dog to have alot of natural senses we dont share like thier nose..you chose a great trail mate.
