"angry Az Mike" Yes poor Mike had Bi-Polar disorder, and he took medications for it. Some days he would be very happy and jovial, and other days he would be downright dis-agreeable and grumpy. Mike during his many years of visitation to Deep Creek and DCHS was very industrious and he did many assorted types of projects to help that place. I have not heard from nor seen him in a long time. I used to spend alot of time with him down there at the springs.

Related to the 92 big flood, it left a lot of sand in the large creek pool in front of the main hot pools ( Womb and Serenity ) such that the water depth was very shallow. Mike and I that spring of 92 were sitting on top of the cliff above the Womb and looked at that shallow water and came up with the idea that we could make a long sand bag wall across the water from one point of granite to another, creating a huge warm pool in the creek, heated up from all of the various hot water sources that flow into the creek in that area. We later got a bunch of sandbags one weekend and with the help of some other visitors we built the wall in a day. At that time the creek was still quite chilly and with our hands we pushed sand from below the creek pool waters into the bags to fill them up, then slid the heavy bags over into place.

That big warm pool was an instant hit with all the visitors, and through the rest of that summer and fall, and even into the next summer the warm pool bags were moved around into several differant sized versions of a huge warm pool. The sand bag wall lasted through that winter because there was no large floods to wash it away. My long time DCHS friend Abe Perlstein took a photo of me standing in the creek in front of the newly created wall of white sandbags on the first day we built it. He took the shot from the top of the cliff across the creek. I had a white sand bag pulled on top of my head sticking way up high, and my hands were held up on each side of me with yellow dish gloves on, which I used when filling the bags so that the sand would not rub my skin raw from filling them. We called that photo " The Unkown Sand Bagger " :-) I think that photo used to be listed at the " more hot spring pictures " link below on this page. It was a geo-cities site that a guy allowed some of us to post some of our DCHS photos way back, but I see that link is now dead. I still have that pic somewhere in my boxes and boxes of old hard copy 35mm film photos :-)
