FOJF members met with Barsow BLM officials today on the matter of open mine shafts in the area. The Barsow BLM office has agreed to address the issue and provide materials to remedy the situation. We also agreed to meet further in regard to the restoration projects for Juniper Flats funded by the state OHV grant. The FOJF volunteers will be teaming up with the BLM on this project. There is a lot of personel turnover within the Barstow BLM field office with recreation manager Howard Johnson announcing his retirement close on the heels of Barry Nelson's departure and the retirement of Tim Read. We can only hope that the new management team led by Roxie Trost will be fair and balanced in their approach to managing our public lands.
