Thankyou Katrina for your input on this very important issue. The FLMPA requires that resource values be protected. The law states that the BLM "Fully disclose to the public the purpose, the full range of issues and considerations (including environmental) and details of the proposed actions and a reasonable range of alternatives"
The close proximity to a large population area, lack of a current survey, inclusion of trails in steep and erosive areas, lack of enforcement in areas of illegal OHV trails in riparian and cultural areas, a history of OHV non compliance with existing laws, inadequate route signing, and inadequate funding for BLM law enforcement resources have all been overlooked in formulating this plan.
As I have pointed out, existing OHV/Off Road Vehicle areas exist within a reasonably close proximity allowing for multiple options for those who choose to enjoy this type of recreation. The WEMO plan for the "Juniper" area creates a climate that would encourage further degradation of the area from non compliant OHV abuse. This sensitive area is slowly recovering from the catastrophic Willow Fire.
Once again, I would like to encourage everyone to write to the BLM asap....The public comment window closes at the end of the month!
